It is not otherwise. That which is the object of sound is the universal, and that which is not the object of sound is the particular. If it is the object of sound, then it is the nature of the universal. If it is not the object of sound, then it is the particular. The particular is also not the object of sound, because it has already been explained. Moreover, as it is seen here, sound does not appear separately to the knowledge arising from sound, and so on, it will be shown. Therefore, there is no other object other than the object of sound and the non-object. Other reasons besides the object, such as attention and conformity to it, and the holding of terms, when those exist, then the object for which there is mind, that object is the universal. From the perspective of a person applying names, it is called an object because it is similar to an object, but it is not ultimately so. Without understanding the object, there are other reasons, such as the causes of the eye and appearance and attention, etc., but if there is something missing, there is no mind, that is the particular. If it is merely an object of attention, etc., then when the mind arises wanting to manifest the third object that is universally imputed, then that is the universal. If attention, etc., exist, but if it is missing, no mind arises, then that is the particular. In that case, there are only two aspects of the object. The nature of being able to perform a function, etc., should be combined with what is ultimately able to perform a function, etc., for the particular, etc. Meaning is the result, and its action is to produce. What is the power of performing a function? That is, what is produced by one's own proximity, that is what exists ultimately here, that is, in this treatise. It is considered that the object exists. Others, that is, in some ways, some results also have no power, that is considered to exist conventionally. In that case, what is different is what exists ultimately, and what is the same is what exists conventionally. What is not the object of sound is what exists ultimately, and what is the object of sound is what exists conventionally. Even if there are other reasons, what is missing, there is no mind, that is

It should be understood that what is truly existent, and others are not conventionally existent. For those things that should be grasped as truly existent and conventionally existent, explain their own and common characteristics. Truly existent is its own characteristic, while conventionally existent is a common characteristic. Although it may change like that, if it is said that everything is powerless, and there is not even a little ability to function in reality, then for an object that is considered to be truly existent, there is no characteristic. The reason is that what does not exist in something does not become its characteristic, like the horns of a horse. For what is considered to be its own characteristic, there is also no ability to function, which is the non-perception of pervasion. Seeds and so on, for sprouts and so on, the ability is seen, the fruit is seen. This is said like this, if something is very close, then what transforms is the ability for it, because the ability to function is just that kind of characteristic. Seeds and so on exist for sprouts and so on, so it will show that the reason is not established. Although it may change like that, if it is considered conventional, then when seeds and so on exist, sprouts and so on arise, that is conventional arising, not true arising. Therefore, if it is assumed that there is true arising, then the characteristic of the object is the ability to function, at that time, what is to be expressed is not pervasive, so it is not a characteristic. If it is said to be conventional, then it also exists in the common characteristic, so it becomes a confused characteristic because it is very pervasive. How could that be? Because we have already explained that the characteristic of the ability to function is not pervasive. Therefore, whatever kind of ability to function is seen, it cannot be denied what it is, that is the characteristic, and there is no dispute about how to name it as one pleases. Furthermore, what is it that you consider to be conventionally existent? Because it is considered to arise conventionally, not in any other way. If everything itself does not exist, then that is conventional, if that is the case, then it cannot be called conventional.
