When establishing self and other dharmas as the probandum, the measurable self and other dharmas exist in all concordant and discordant classes, or exist in one aspect. Similarly, if doubt arises about that very reason, it is only an inconclusive reason. For example, when establishing that someone who wants to speak is not omniscient, or possesses desire and so on, like the dharma of speaking and so on, it is doubting the exclusion from the discordant class. Such non-apprehension as "for the omniscient, speaking is not apprehended," because its object is like non-appearance, is the cause of doubt. Therefore, the exclusion from not being omniscient, the exclusion of speaking and so on, becomes doubt, because there is no contradiction between speaking itself and omniscience itself. Even if not seen, the exclusion that whoever is omniscient is not a speaker is not established, because doubt arises. The contradiction of things is of two kinds: arising without lacking causes, if the other exists, it does not exist, therefore it is contradictory, like the touch of cold and heat. Merely the nature of existing by mutually excluding each other, like existence and non-existence. These two kinds of contradiction are not possible in speaking itself and omniscience itself, because there is no contradiction, so even if seen, it is not understood as non-existence. Desire and so on, and words and so on, because they are not established as cause and effect things, therefore other meanings are not causes, the exclusion of words and so on is not, therefore, like this, the exclusion of words and so on is an inconclusive reason, because it has doubt. The reversed establishment of two reasons is contradictory. Which two? Existing in the concordant class and not existing in the discordant class. Being made and being newly produced, like when establishing permanence, it is like a contradictory pseudo-reason, because these two do not exist in the concordant class and exist in the discordant class, so it is reversed establishment, and these two are for reversing the dharma to be established, so they are contradictory. Because it harms what is accepted, is the third contradiction also like that? For example,

For example, the reason why eyes and so on benefit others is that they are composite things, just like the components of mattresses and cushions. This is because some people believe that non-composite things can benefit others, which contradicts the reversed argument. Why wasn't this mentioned? Because it is included in the first two. Because the thing to be proven is proven in the wrong way, it is no different from the first two. Between "intention" and "statement," there is no difference in terms of the thing to be proven itself. Of the two modes, one is not established, and the doubt about the other is also uncertain. For example, because one can speak, one is free from desire, or one is omniscient. In this example, the negation is not established, and the concomitance is doubtful. Because omniscience and freedom from desire require long-term practice to achieve. Therefore, people doubt whether he has language, etc. If there is doubt about the mode itself, then it is uncertain. For example, because it possesses life and so on, the living body is with self. Among with self and without self, there is no other aggregate in which life and so on can exist, because the existence of self and the distinction of with self have included all situations. It is also not certain in which of these two life and so on exist, because in proving with self or without self, life and so on are not established. Therefore, life and so on related to the living body are not completely refuted from all with self and without self, so it is not separated from the two. Because it is not established on one self either, there is no concomitance with it. The concomitance and negation of with self and without self are both uncertain, because the nature of concomitance and negation is only mutually exclusive. If it is certain that one does not exist, then the other undoubtedly exists. Therefore, doubting both concomitance and negation is uncertain, because the thing to be proven and the other are uncertain. Thus, in the above three modes, each mode is not established in two cases, or is doubtful, as appropriate.
