A Treatise Called "Drop of Reasoning," Glorious Dharmakīrti. A Treatise Called "Drop of Reasoning." Glorious Dharmakīrti. In Sanskrit: Nyāyabindu nāma prakaraṇa. In Tibetan: A Treatise Called "Drop of Reasoning." Homage to youthful Mañjuśrī! Valid cognition is that which precedes the accomplishment of all purposes of a person, therefore it is taught. Valid cognition is of two kinds: perception and inference. Of these, perception is non-conceptual and non-erroneous. Conception is the appearance in consciousness of what is capable of being mixed with language; it is the absence of that. The consciousness that is free from error caused by things such as cataracts, rapid rotation, being in a boat, or disturbance is perception. It is of four kinds: sense consciousness, that which has its own object as its immediate condition and its object as its cooperative condition, mental consciousness produced by the immediate condition of a similar sense consciousness, self-awareness of all consciousnesses and mental factors, and the consciousness of a yogi arising from the culmination of meditating on reality. Its object is its own characteristic; that which appears differently in consciousness from things that are near and not near is its own characteristic. That itself exists ultimately, for the characteristic of a thing is only the characteristic of performing a function. The other is a general characteristic; that is the object of inference. That very perception is the result of valid cognition, for it is only the nature of realizing an object. Similarity to the object itself is its valid cognition, for by its power the realization of the object is accomplished. From the Treatise Called "Drop of Reasoning," the first chapter, on Perception. Inference is of two kinds: for oneself and for others. Of these, inference for oneself is the knowledge that arises from a sign with three aspects. Here also, the establishment of the result of valid cognition is the same as with perception. The sign with three aspects is that which is necessarily present in the subject of inference, present in similar instances, and necessarily absent in dissimilar instances. The subject of inference is here what is to be known.

It is a phenomenon that possesses the distinction of wanting to establish. The concordant side is in accordance with the general characteristic and meaning of the dharma to be established. The discordant side is not the concordant side, that is, different from it, contradictory to it, and without it. These three modes are only possessed of three characteristics, namely, the invisible, the nature, and the result. Among them, the invisible is, for example, there is no vase in a certain directional distinction, because it is invisible from becoming the object of visibility. Becoming the object of visibility is the completeness of other conditions of visibility and possessing a special nature, that is, whatever has nature, if other conditions of visibility also exist, it will only become manifest. Nature is merely becoming self-existent, it is the reason for the dharma to be established, for example, because it is a fragrant flower tree, this is a tree. The result is, for example, because there is smoke, there is fire there. Among these, two are for establishing things, and one is the reason for negation. If there is a natural connection, then the meaning can make the meaning understood, if there is no connection with it, then there will be no confusion there, because there is no certainty. For the meaning to be established, that connection of the sign, in reality, is because it is the nature of the meaning to be established, and because it arises from the meaning to be established, it is not its nature, and it is not produced from it, because it is the nature of not being connected with it. Those two, its essence and what arises from it, are only nature and result, only through those two things can be established. Even if negation is established, it only changes from the invisible as mentioned above, because if things exist, that is impossible. In other cases, for those who are distinguished by place, time, and nature, and have not become visible objects, even if one's own direct perception is reversed, it cannot be determined that things do not exist, because there is no certainty. The action of remembering without being ignorant, if the direct perception of the establisher, the reversal of the past and present, then the name of the non-existence of things will be used, because only through it can it be determined that things do not exist. That is eleven aspects formed by the difference of combination, for example, the invisible nature is
