When the fame of the Blessed One's deeds for the teachings spread throughout the world, the captain Sun, hearing this, desired to compete, thinking: I too shall enter the great ocean, and if a ship is well-built, I shall inform the Blessed One, gather all the Blessed One's Shravaka disciples residing in Jambudvipa, satisfy them with food offerings, and make each Bhikshu happy with three precious Dharma robes. Then he spoke these words to his wife. She said: Master, may you be able to think correctly and fulfill the desires in your heart! Then the captain Sun announced three times in the city of Rajagriha, and surrounded by five hundred merchants, he entered the great ocean. When he entered that great ocean, the Blessed One passed into complete Nirvana. While he was dwelling there, the great Elder Kashyapa also passed into complete Nirvana. After some time, at another time, the youth Golden Radiance went to the garden. Then, a Bhikshu recited a verse closely related to impermanence: This life and the night, going and returning, like the flow of a great river, will go never to return. Like a fish in a small stream, which passes day and night, life is so short, what reward is there for it? Since the end of life is death, who created this body? The extent of disease quickly vanishes, and the collection of pus will also vanish. Alas, this body is unstoppable, empty and separated from consciousness, like a piece of firewood abandoned in a cemetery, it will fall on the ground. Always tormented by disease, always dripping with impurity, this body eroded by old age and death, what is wrong with abandoning it? Quickly vanishing, this body filled with pus, use it to pursue accomplishment, supreme happiness, and the supreme field of merit. Having heard these verses, the youth Golden Radiance became weary of Samsara, and because he had not abandoned the merits of Nirvana, he prostrated to that Bhikshu.

Sati asked: What is this sacred Dharma? The monk said: Good son, this is the Buddha's teaching. After hearing this, he developed great faith in the teachings of the Bhagavan and desired to be ordained and attain liberation. Then he served that monk, prostrated at his feet, and said: Holy one, I wish to be ordained, please accept me with compassion and allow me to be ordained. The monk said: Good son, have your parents given permission? He said: They have not. The monk said: Good son, go and ask your parents, I will not allow you to be ordained without their permission. He said: I will do so. Then, the golden-skinned youth, fearing samsara and feeling aversion, returned to his home, prostrated at his mother's feet, and said: Mother, please know that I wish to be ordained in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya. Hearing him say this, his mother was very sad, beat her chest, and said: Child, you are my only son, beloved, pleasing, beautiful, obedient, full of hope in my heart, how can you abandon me and go forth? He said: Mother, eventually one must be separated from beloved things, please know this, and please allow me to be ordained in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya. Hearing these words, she felt great pain in her heart, and with tears in her eyes, she said: Child, I would rather vomit blood and die than hear you say such things for three years. He thought again: If I try to persuade her like this, I will not be able to stop her, I should think of a way. Then she said: Child, your father has entered the great ocean for the sake of the Buddha's teachings, and I will not allow you to be ordained until he returns. If he returns, I will allow you to be ordained. Because he respected his mother, he thought: If I say more to her, it will only cause her more pain, I should wait until my father returns. So he said nothing and stayed there.
