Among the distinctions of those who dwell in residences, there is what is called the "Stupa Worshippers of the Residence." This refers to a wandering ascetic named "Great God" who, after becoming ordained, resided in a dwelling with a stupa. Later, when he became the foundation of the Mahasanghika, he was established as a sect called the "Stupa Worshippers." They were established as six sects of the Mahasanghika. Moreover, there are two types of Sthaviras (Elders): the earlier Sthaviras and those called the "Himavatas" (Snow Mountain School). The fundamental vow of the earlier Sthaviras is that Arhats are not taught or realized by others. Similarly, the five points do not exist. The Pudgala (person) exists. The intermediate existence (antarabhava) exists. Arhats completely passing into Nirvana exists. The past and future also exist. The meaning of Nirvana exists, this is the fundamental vow of the Sthaviras. Among them, the fundamental vow of the Himavatas is: Bodhisattvas are not ordinary beings. Outsiders also possess the five superknowledges. It should be said that the Pudgala is different from the skandhas (aggregates), because when entering Nirvana, where the skandhas cease, the Pudgala exists. There is verbal engagement in meditative absorption. Abandoning the suffering of the path, these are the vows of the Himavatas. Furthermore, the initial Sthaviras also became divided into two: the Sarvastivadins (those who assert everything exists) and the Vatsiputriyas (Sons of Vatsa). Among them, the fundamental vow of the Sarvastivadins is that everything is encompassed by two: conditioned and unconditioned. What is the result of saying this? That the Pudgala does not exist. As it is said: 'When this selfless body arises, there is no maker, nor is there a knower. How the river of samsara flows, O excellent listener, listen to what I will explain.' Like that which was said. These are the fundamental vows of the Sarvastivadins. Moreover, their fundamental vow is that everything is encompassed by name and form. The past and future exist. A stream-enterer should be said to be one who is not subject to falling away. The characteristics of conditioned phenomena are three. The Four Noble Truths are realized sequentially. Emptiness.

Through emptiness, absence of aspiration, and absence of signs, one will enter the state of faultlessness. With five moments of cessation, one enters the fruit of stream-entry. A stream-enterer is one who has attained meditative absorption. An Arhat may also decline. Ordinary beings also have the abandonment of desire or hatred. Non-Buddhists also have the five superknowledges. Gods also have those who abide in pure conduct. All Sutras are of provisional meaning. Entering the state of faultlessness is from the desire realm. Worldly beings in the desire realm also have right view. The five aggregates of consciousness are neither with desire nor without desire. These are the vows of the Sarvastivadins. Furthermore, the distinction of the Sarvastivadins is to speak with differentiation. Furthermore, the distinctions of speaking with differentiation are the Mahasanghikas, the Dharmaguptakas, the Kashyapiyas, and the Sautrantikas. Among them, the fundamental vow of the Mahasanghikas is that the past and the future do not exist. Only conditioned phenomena that arise in the present exist. By seeing suffering, one will see all four truths. Latent predispositions are other, and the cause of manifestation is also other. The intermediate state does not exist. In the realm of the gods, there is also pure conduct. Arhats also accumulate merit. The five aggregates of consciousness also have those with desire and those without desire. A person is the same as the body, including the head. A stream-enterer is one who has attained meditative absorption. Ordinary beings also abandon desire or hatred. The Buddha belongs to the category of the Sangha. The Sangha produces great fruit, but the Buddha is not like that. The liberation of the Buddha and the Shravakas is the same. A person is invisible. Only mind and mental factors, even a very small amount of the law of birth, from this world to the other world, there is no transfer. All conditioned phenomena are momentary. Birth comes from the increase of formations. Formations are impermanent. As the mind is, so is the karma.
