If the size of the robe is too small, it constitutes an offense. What constitutes being too small and thus an offense? It is as the value, color, and requested dimensions, etc. If one obtains according to the requested value, color, and dimensions, then it constitutes an offense. If one does not obtain as requested, what then? If it is not so, then there is no offense. As previously stated, if one does not obtain as requested, or if the size and color do not match, or if it is not the requested item, then there is no offense. When initially requesting, if one does not specify the color, etc., but requests generally, then whatever is obtained constitutes an offense. If one requests cloth and ready-made clothes, then even if one obtains coarse cloth, it does not constitute an offense. If one requests the material for clothing, such as cotton, even if one obtains coarse cloth, it does not constitute an offense. If one requests the material for clothing, such as wool or bark, it is the same as requesting coarse cloth. If one abandons what was requested, then it is also permissible. Furthermore, the rationale for requesting robes is shown, such as "If there are no blessed items, then it is reasonable to request robes," etc. If there are no thirteen requisites, then it is reasonable to request robes. What constitutes an offense? This is the cause of committing an offense; if one requests robes exceeding the proper rationale for requesting, then it constitutes an offense. The following will elaborate in detail: The measurements for a householder's upper and lower garments are twelve cubits, seven cubits, and two cubits of cloth, respectively. The order for a monk's patched robe and large skirt is as previously described. For a householder's robe, the complete set measures twelve cubits, seven cubits, and two cubits. If a monk makes a robe from coarse cloth, then it should be patched with two layers, and one skirt. If the robe is old, then it should be patched with four layers, and two skirts as a set. What is the measure for requesting robes? One should request a set, and not request more. Which set should one request, that of a householder or a monk? One may request either, both are permissible.

It is what the Teacher said. "Do not ask for more than this limit" means do not ask for more than the limit of two robes mentioned above. "If the previous needs are not met, they should be met" means that if the limit for asking for householder's clothes is only to the extent that it is not enough, then one should not ask for the sake of meeting the needs. Among them, if the length of the upper garment is five and a half cubits and the width is three and a half cubits, and there are not even three lower garments to cover the body, then there is no fault in asking for the sake of meeting the needs. "What is obtained later should be given away" means that if the limit of the upper and lower garments of a bhikkhu is also exceeded, then the excess should be given back to the Sangha. "If one asks improperly, what kind of downfall will one incur?" If one asks without asking, one commits an evil deed, and if one obtains, one commits a relinquishment. It means that if one asks beyond the stated limit of asking, one commits an evil deed at the time of asking, and if one obtains, one declares the downfall of relinquishment. In this regard, the Ṭīkāpa explains that if one asks for things that are not felt, etc., one commits a minor evil deed at the time of asking, and if one obtains, one commits a fundamental downfall, which is a more serious crime than an evil deed. "If one does not give back, it is also possible" means that if one does not give back the excess, it also shows that one will commit a relinquishment. The reason for asking is to give up. "The difference between asking and giving up" is that if one knows that one has not promised to give, it is merely that one has not promised to give, meaning that promising to give means "you give" or "you take", etc. If one does not promise to give with giving, it is like not promising to give. Asking like this will lead to the downfall of asking for a promised gift. In order to clearly show this meaning, it means "it is also like this". If one asks without knowing that one has promised to give, then it is different from this and one will commit the downfall of asking. Among them, if one does not know that one has promised to give at the time of asking, but knows it at the time of obtaining, then the application belongs to the evil deed of asking, and the root is this downfall. Relinquishment of asking for a promised gift. "Asking for a promised gift" is to show the manner, which means "separately promising to give and asking". Showing this meaning is the meaning of "the giver can also be generous", or even if the patron gives generously like pouring, if one has the conditions mentioned above, one will commit a downfall. What is obtained with one application means "one", which is with one application.
