It should be tolerated and accommodated. If it cannot be separated, then it should be intimidated, meaning if it cannot be separated, then intimidate. If asked how to intimidate, the answer is: 'O long-lived one, you have matters to attend to, O long-lived one, you have reasons to intimidate, do not leave here discouraged.' It means, O long-lived one, you have many reasons for punishment and decision, so stay. 'Use these words to intimidate. Even if this cannot be tamed, then prohibit giving (the Sangha's) food, meaning if doing as before cannot persuade, then do not give food. For this person, do not speak, etc., meaning for such a person, not only should food be prohibited, but also do not speak, etc. Even if this is done, prohibit the Uposatha, but do not expel from the Sangha, meaning if doing as before cannot persuade, then prohibit the Uposatha, and even if this cannot persuade, then prohibit expulsion from the Sangha. Here, prohibiting again and again, doing it together becomes pure, meaning the Six Groups of monks individually rebuke a monk, and later the Six Groups of monks themselves perform the Uposatha together, just as it becomes pure in this way, whoever prohibited it initially should preside over it, and no one else needs to do it, and it becomes pure. Even if separated, if they still act independently, then pressure should be applied, meaning even if they have been separated, if they cannot listen to teachings or cannot reconcile, then pressure should be applied by means of methods. If asked how to apply pressure, the answer is: 'In this or that place, there is this or that thing.' Whatever way it is said, it is to fabricate charges or expose crimes, and threaten: 'Did you commit such a crime in a certain place?' Or wherever it is, I will expose the crimes you have committed.' Speak of the crimes in a stern tone, and expose the truth of the crimes, and threaten. If discussing faults in discipline, views, conduct, and livelihood, etc., if these have a basis, then they can be reproached, meaning if there are faults in discipline, etc., then as mentioned before, if these faults are based on what is seen, heard, and suspected, then they can be reproached or discussed. Do not base it on conjecture, meaning do not base it on speculation without solid evidence.

Do not argue based on speculation or doubt. Here, "not respecting true things" means that although the opponent has a flaw of error, the opponent himself does not know it, like slander or thinking that there is a fault when there is none, like refuting, not respecting true things, but showing that the opponent's own concept is respected. Hearing the signs of doing things, other people's gossip, and saying bad things about oneself, means that hearing through these three ways is the root of hearing. Among them, "signs of doing things" refers to hearing the sound of making love. "Other people's gossip" refers to hearing talk about improper behavior. "Saying bad things about oneself" means that there are others who are gossiping. If you don't believe it, it's not the root, which means that others slander and say bad things, and if you don't believe it yourself, it cannot become the root of hearing. This is what is taught. //What is taught, arises from inquiry, and is shown in summary, means that if you know a lot through reasons, then it is easy for anyone to argue, etc., meaning that if you know a lot of faults through reasons, then it is easy for anyone to refute and argue. If it does not arise from behavior, do not prohibit it, and if it is not a fasting day, it is not like that, which means that if it does not arise from behavior, and it is not a fasting day, then do not prohibit it. Binding women or those born to others means that if you have done binding or are doing binding, it is not binding, which means that even if you bind women, it will not become binding. If a monk changes his name from his father, then for him, it is as if his nature has disappeared, which means that because his nature has disappeared, it will not become binding. It is not because the precepts are the same, which means that because the precepts are broken and the sangha is different, it will not become binding. Here, "not" means that for those whose nature has not disappeared and whose precepts are not the same, etc., even if they are bound, it will not become binding. This is what is taught. //This treatise says "things bound on the fasting day", why is this investigated here? Because binding on the fasting day is only temporary, while binding arising from behavior, and preventing the Dharma and putting it into protection, etc., exist in the various things taught.
