The gathering and dwelling here is an establishment for living things, but it is not an establishment for anything that is not a person. The meaning of pure discipline as stated by the Blessed One is Posadha, and the meaning of pure Dharma is arising from reason. If you wish, instruct in the manner of arising from reason. Establishing a person and not a thing, and also establishing a thing and a person, this is the basis for the reason of stating upwards. Establishing a person and not a thing, and establishing both a thing and a person, one should instruct from the reason of stating upwards. Among these, pure discipline means purifying and eliminating all downfalls through Posadha. Pure Dharma means that through exhortation and statement, the mind and the dharmas arising from the mind do not contradict each other, and become true. Establishing a promise, and even denying after establishing, the promise will not disappear. This means that after establishing and proposing in this way, even if one completely denies or partially denies, the initial promise and the arising from reason will not disappear. If someone says, "There is no previous one here, or there is no form like this at all," this is lying. If one denies the previous establishment and the later establishment, the arising from reason will not disappear, but will become a knowing lie. Those who have entered into reason, if they hear that a contentious monk is coming, after two or three Posadhas have passed, they should act according to reason. This means that if one feels that a contentious person is coming, after two or three Posadhas have passed, they should separate and proceed with reason. If it is not successful, one should increase the stakes to five or six, and honor him by offering food, accepting the bowl and robes, giving lodging, caves, and multi-storied buildings, performing bathing and milking, preaching the Dharma, and so on. All these are to make him happy. If one cannot do as above, or if one is deceived by the contentious person, one should increase the stakes, starting from two or three or four or five monks, perform all the Posadhas, and make him happy in this way. However, if one still cannot do it, one should perform Posadha in the stakes.

The so-called giving is like what was said before, even things that have been squeezed dry and exhausted, one should still give to those many patrons who initially undertook the obligation, just as before. If someone says, "Now, are you not acting according to the rules?" then, those of you who are alive, this is the fundamental way of acting. Those of you who come from elsewhere are called "dwellings," meaning that when there is a dispute during the time of giving, one should advise and guide them in this way. The so-called "coming out of the cave" means that after those who are arguing leave, one should initially handle things according to the rules. This is the object of acting according to the rules. Now, summarizing and explaining what arises from trivial matters, etc., such as: it is not permissible to have resentment without patience. Even if one has resentment without patience, one should not handle it according to the rules. If one asks, "How should it be done according to the rules?" the answer is: the time limit for this is ten days or half a month. Some say that the time limit is seven or eight days, meaning that before this number of days, one should ask for forgiveness and eliminate resentment. The so-called "not after gathering" means that no matter where, when the Sangha gathers, one should not ask for forgiveness. The so-called "if he does not forgive" means that if one asks for forgiveness but the other person refuses to forgive, one should not handle it according to the rules. Similarly, for all the remaining matters, it is not permissible if the other person is not pleased, meaning that according to the rules, everyone should ask each other for forgiveness. The so-called "do not fail to ask for forgiveness from the angry one" means that one should not let anger continue, but should eliminate anger and ask for forgiveness. A Bhikshuni should not be in an external place with a Bhikshu, should not step on the other's feet, and should step on them after asking for forgiveness, meaning that a Bhikshuni should ask a Bhikshu for forgiveness in this way. If one asks for forgiveness, it is not permissible for the Bhikshu not to listen, and one should not act contrary to it, meaning that if a Bhikshuni asks a Bhikshu for forgiveness, the Bhikshu should not refuse to listen, and should not act in a way that contradicts her. If one asks for forgiveness through clairvoyance, one should arrange it beforehand, meaning that for the angry person, one should find someone who is close to him or friendly, and have him smooth things over beforehand. If it is really not possible, one should not fail to inquire when seeking a method, meaning forgiveness.
