Oh! What possessions, when used for sustenance, become a residue for the Sangha? It is said to be when one takes a little for oneself. Whether it be food or clothing, anything at all, if one takes it for oneself, it becomes a residue. And how is that? It is said to be through attachment. If a Bhikshuni, through attachment, accepts something like a superior item, she commits an offense. From whom does she accept it? From a man. What kind of man? Whether attached or unattached. Whether the man is attached or unattached, if she accepts from him, she commits an offense. For the unattached, it is a grave offense, meaning if a man is attached and a woman is unattached and accepts, it becomes a grave offense. If unattached, it is a Dukkrida offense, meaning if a man is unattached and a woman is attached, it shows that she commits a Dukkrida offense. Accepting a little. How does causing a little to be accepted become a residue? From attachment, if one who is unattached takes a little for oneself, there is no fault, this is instructing the Bhikshuni. It is said that if we ourselves are unattached, what harm is there in taking the possessions of another who is attached? If one causes the acceptance of attached possessions, it becomes a residue. Causing a little to be accepted. The following four situations are when there is no Bhikshuni, meaning from here below, being connected day and night, traveling on the road, and crossing the river, these four situations, if there is no Bhikshuni companion, one commits an offense. One-third missing refers to a Bhikshuni, meaning if a Bhikshuni is taken as a companion, because one-third is not complete, it shows that one commits a Dukkrida offense. Two-thirds refers to a Shramanerika, meaning if a Shramanerika is taken as a companion, because two-thirds is not complete, it becomes a grave offense. Separating unwillingly is without fault, meaning if one does not intentionally use it as bedding, separating from a companion shows that there is no fault. In the middle, being affected by obstacles is also permissible, meaning discussing with a companion, because the obstacles of guarding the Bhikshu and livelihood become compelling reasons, even if one leaves without a companion, it is permissible. What combines these four residues, and what does it show as becoming the root of? Belonging to time is combining before the end, meaning all that belongs to time, before reaching the final time, all shows that one commits a Dukkrida offense. The setting sun is the end of the day, meaning the end of the day is the setting sun.

Oh. In general, after following the nature of the summary in this way, in order to show the respective natures, what is the remainder of separating at night? It is said, "The night remains outside of Yarmothang," meaning that if a whole night remains outside of Yarmothang, it becomes a remainder. Separating at night. What is the remainder of separating during the day? It is said, "The day," meaning that if a whole day remains outside of Yarmothang, it becomes a remainder. Showing its connection is: when a famine occurs, the precept of associating and going with relatives is that one should go to the relative's house only for food, meaning that if a famine occurs, if one associates with relatives and the Sangha gives permission, then even if one goes alone during the day, it is permissible. The so-called "giving" means that in such a case, the Sangha should also give permission. Associating during the day. What is the remainder of walking on the road? It is said, "Walking on the road," meaning that if one walks alone on the road, one will violate the precept by one Yojana. Entering the road. What is the remainder of crossing? It is said, "Crossing to the other side of the river," meaning that if one crosses to the other side of the river, one will violate the precept. How does one cross? It is said that one swims to the other side. The so-called "until coarse" means that it becomes coarse until one reaches the shore on the other side. The so-called "crossing a canal is a misdeed" means that if one swims and crosses a small water body such as a canal, it is shown as a misdeed. Crossing water. What is the remainder of complete expulsion that becomes the Sangha's remainder? It is said, "Complete expulsion," and so on. How is one completely expelled? It is said, "Cut off by the crowd, banished by the owner, allowed to be killed by the king," meaning that if such a criminal is completely expelled, one will violate the precept. What is the root of violating the precept? It is said, "Acting as a matchmaker," meaning that if such a person acts as a matchmaker, one will initially violate the precept. Then, how does one act as a matchmaker? It is said, "Knowing in this way," meaning that if one knows that someone has deception and faults like the above, and still acts as a matchmaker, one will violate the precept. Complete expulsion. If the property of the deceased is encroached upon, will it become a remainder?
