This explains how the nature of earth, whether it conforms to regulations or not, leads to transgressions and downfalls. To illustrate what the nature of earth is like, if a mound is left for three months, it is considered "the former," meaning that if a mound of earth remains for three months, it indicates that it is the nature of earth. Is it always like that? "If it rains continuously," meaning that if it rains constantly, it will change like the former. If it doesn't rain, how long will it take to become that nature? "Otherwise, it is six months," meaning that if it doesn't rain, it will take six months to become that nature. If a wall is not earth, do not expect it to become the nature of earth, meaning that the wall will also exhibit the nature of earth. The summarized characteristic is "most of it is solid," meaning that if ten types of earth, etc., are mixed with understanding, then most of it is solid. Therefore, "mixing with a small amount of substance, it rolls," meaning that if mixed, the smaller portion is included in the majority. "Cracking is damage," meaning that cracked earth indicates that it has lost the nature of earth. "Damage is half," meaning that if damaged like the former, it is considered a transgression. Earth, grease, garbage, walls, accumulated ashes, etc., if broken, are also considered transgressions. Sand and gravel, etc., if mostly excavated, are also considered transgressions. "Doing is also," meaning that doing as described below is also a transgression. What is that? The marks of pulling out stakes, the damage caused by carrying heavy objects, moving the foundation, the damage caused by hanging kettles, and naturally occurring soft substances, excavating and scraping these will become transgressions. What is the intention behind the root and actions that lead to transgressions? "If you think of damage here, that's it," meaning that if you intentionally think of causing damage, it will be like those situations. Therefore, "with the intention of calculating and walking, there is no fault," meaning that excavating and scraping with the intention of calculating and walking is without fault. Destroying the earth. Next, explaining the downfall caused by begging uninvited: "Do not beg uninvited," etc., meaning that it is not permissible to beg uninvited, because it has already been explained before, even if invited, do not beg uninvited.

Do not do that. Do not specify a time, and if someone expects to receive food there, then it is appropriate to go to the house that provides food. This means that if the patron invites you as a guest and expects you to be invited under the umbrella, then we ourselves should go to that house. If time does not permit, it is also permissible to urge an invitation, which means that if the time under the umbrella does not permit, we ourselves should urge the invitation as soon as possible. That statement is only temporary and not permanent, which means that apart from activities such as prayers, if temporary matters are in accordance with the purpose and there is no conflict, then do not rely on the temporary words in the scriptures. Separate invitations are acceptable, which means that if the patron invites members of the Sangha separately, it is also permissible to go. In order to dispel the doubt that it is inappropriate for individuals to go and eat separately when the Sangha is providing food together, it is also permissible to be invited together with the Sangha, which means that even if the Sangha invites collectively, there is no fault in going and eating separately. Any time is permissible, which means that even if permanently invited, there is nothing impermissible, so accept it. If one exceeds the limits of the invitation in some way, will one commit the fault of begging? If one invites without setting a limit, or goes elsewhere, or invites repeatedly, or invites with excessive enthusiasm, if one does not exceed these, then confession for exceeding four months is acceptable, which means that if one does not set a limit and say, "Please come to my house until this time," or sets a time limit and says, "Please come until this time," or invites repeatedly, or invites sincerely, if one eats the patron's food for more than four months, one will commit a downfall. Begging is wrong, which means that if one begs without eating as before, it shows that it is wrong. A sick person is without fault, which means that if a sick person begs for food and eats it as before, it is permissible. Relatives are also the same, which means that if one begs from relatives as before, it is also permissible. A wanderer is different from before, which means that within four months, if the patron provides food, and the monk leaves and then returns, one cannot rely on the previous time of providing food. If one relies on the previous time, what fault will there be in eating? This means that one commits the fault of not eating, which is the fault of begging for merit.
