Welcoming. It should be done this way. With water as well, meaning that drinking water should also be used to entertain guests. Bow, and ask if they are comfortable. Make them happy to the best of your ability. Welcoming should also be done by giving them lodging and bedding. Here, the scripture says that when monks come from outside the village, they should be welcomed in order of seniority, and they should be asked if they have lodging, etc. Going to the abbot of the Sangha, this refers to a sudden visit. This statement is for those sudden visitors who are not familiar with the road. Let him arrange accommodation, meaning that the abbot of the Sangha arranges accommodation for those who come suddenly. If they are older, in order to arrange accommodation for them, it is given to their caretaker. It means that in order to arrange accommodation for the sudden visitor, the abbot of the Sangha should appoint the caretaker in charge of accommodation. Do not ask for accommodation casually, meaning do not casually ask for inappropriate accommodation, this is to avoid becoming a havaśūra. Here, the scripture says that if a monk comes suddenly, if accommodation is to be arranged, it should be carefully observed before arranging it. The case of sudden visits ends here. If the edge of the Dharma garment is worn, it should be mended and repaired with the edge, meaning that if the edge of the Dharma garment is not worn, it should be mended and repaired with strips of cloth on the edge. Sew it with needles and threads, etc., to fix the edge, meaning that the edge is fixed by sewing with fine threads like needles and threads. The corpse cloth should be placed uncovered on trees, etc., for seven or eight days, or some say five or six days, and used after it has weathered, meaning that the gravedigger should use the corpse cloth after leaving it uncovered for a period of time. Where to put it? On trees, etc. How long? Seven or eight days, or some scriptures say five or six days. Then let it weather and then use it. I

It means that one should be allowed to enter temples and houses if one calls out, making it understood, "I am a cemetery practitioner." When a cemetery practitioner arrives near a temple or house, one should not enter haphazardly, but should call out and make it known, "I am a cemetery practitioner." If someone invites, saying, "Please come in," then one should enter the temples and houses. It also means that a cemetery practitioner should accept the use of things that have not been given away. It means that for all the things that a patron has not given away, including cushions, if the patron, desiring merit, invites, saying, "Please sit here, please use this," the cemetery practitioner should accept the use of it. For things that have been given away, one may use them as one pleases, even without being invited; this is the final conclusion. One should not use the dwelling place of the Sangha; this refers to the cemetery practitioner. Keeping a distance of one fathom while circumambulating a stupa also refers to the cemetery practitioner. One should carry a fly whisk; this refers to all monks in a place where there are flies that bite. What is it like? Therefore, it is said to be a fan made of bamboo, or made of kusha grass, or made of cotton cloth or feathers. It is not allowed to make fly whisks from the hair of elephants, horses, or cows, etc. Here, the word "hair" should be connected separately to each of the three animals, such as elephants. By mentioning "etc.," it is also forbidden to use any material that would cause flies to die. In any case, it is not allowed to use handles that are colored or fancy; this refers not only to the handle of the fly whisk, but also to all handles that support the body, it is not allowed to use colored or fancy handles, because single materials such as colors are also part of the limbs. One should also carry a fly cover. What is it like? Therefore, it is said to be cloth covering a wooden stick. How should it be covered on the wooden stick? Therefore, it is said to be bound with rope. How much cloth is needed? Therefore, it is said to be four cubits long and two cubits wide, meaning the size is four cubits in length and two cubits in width. What should cover the surface?
