There. First, refuge should be given, and later, ordination should be properly received. The preceptor should give it in this way: Preceptor, please listen. I, named so-and-so, from this time onwards, until the end of my life, take refuge in the Buddha, the best of bipeds. I take refuge in the Dharma, the best of those free from desire. I take refuge in the Sangha, the best of assemblies. I, the Bhagavan, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, Shakyamuni, Shakya Simha, the King of the Shakyas, the Lord of the Shakyas, go forth after him, abandoning the signs of a householder. It should be given with the mantra "I take the signs of ordination." Here, the so-called signs of ordination refer to the appearance of a monk, such as shaving the head. For the sake of briefly indicating another way, it is said that it is also permissible after the request, and it should be connected with "ordination and near-perfection." The word "also permissible" means to understand different ways. Some Vinaya holders understand this differently, thinking that ordination should be done only at the time of requesting the preceptor, without shaving the hair and beard. For example, just as a novice himself only performs the ordination, similarly, shaving the hair and beard, giving and wearing robes are also ways of ordination. Therefore, ordination should be done only at the time of requesting the preceptor, and later the hair and beard should be shaved. The novice vow should be entrusted to a monk who can make him near-perfect, that is, the person ordained by the preceptor. The so-called novice who makes him near-perfect is the one who gives him the novice vow, that is, the one who has the state of making him near-perfect, is the one who makes him near-perfect. The so-called monk refers to a monk who has fully received the full ordination through the request and the four karmas. The so-called entrusting is a synonym for giving. The basis of the condition of that state is what is declared, that if that monk is a

Even if one is able to bestow the novice vows, if one asks, "Is it completely pure?" and if it is pure, then one should ordain him. This refers to: ordaining a novice, this is what should be done. The so-called "Is it completely pure?" means "Does this person not have any obstructing factors?" This is its meaning. The so-called "after asking" refers to asking the monk who will ordain him. If he says, "This person is pure," then because that person is pure, he should be ordained as a novice; if he is not pure, then he should not be ordained. The so-called "He is the teacher" refers to: the monk who ordains the novice is the teacher of that novice, just like the monk who gives ordination to the one who is going forth is the Khenpo. The so-called "The one who secretly teaches, the one who performs the karma, the one who gives lodging, and the one who recites are also," because he secretly teaches, he is the one who secretly teaches. At the time of full ordination, because he performs the petition and the four karmas, he is the one who performs the karma. Because he gives lodging, he is the one who gives lodging. Because he makes him recite, he is the one who recites, that is, the one who secretly teaches, the one who performs the karma, the one who gives lodging, and the one who recites are also those people. The word "also" is to be connected with the word "teacher" mentioned in the sutra above, meaning: not only are those teachers, but these people are also teachers. Having said five kinds of teachers, now we must say under what circumstances one can become a true teacher, therefore it is said: If the purpose is accomplished, one naturally becomes a teacher. The so-called "If the purpose is accomplished" refers to: the purpose for which one becomes a teacher is completely achieved, that is, the purpose is completely fulfilled. The so-called "naturally becomes a teacher" refers to naturally becoming a teacher. Just as someone bestows the novice vows, he is both the one who gives rise to the novice vows, and at the same time one should know that he immediately becomes the teacher of the novice. Similarly, if the purpose of secretly teaching is completely fulfilled, one naturally becomes the teacher of secretly teaching. Similarly, the one who performs the karma bestows the Bhikshu vows, at that moment
