Go to each dwelling place, and it is shown that it is permissible to report in front of them. The phrase "residing in each monastery house" refers to the phrase "residing in each dwelling place." This is to explain in front of whom to report, and what the ritual of reporting is. It should be said, "If all is pure," which is what is to be said. "All" refers to all the nuns who have become the Sangha. "If all is pure" means that if the one who wishes to be ordained has all the obstructing dharmas purified, then at that time she should be ordained. "Should say" is a synonym for "say." After reporting, the one who wishes to be ordained should request the Khenpo, which indicates: As soon as the reporting is finished, the one who wishes to be ordained should request the Khenpo with the mantra: 'Teacher, please listen, my name is so-and-so, I request the teacher to be my Khenpo, please teacher be my Khenpo, please teacher Khenpo ordain me,' and so on, thereby requesting the Khenpo, that is, entrusting. The Khenpo should also shave the hair and beard of the one who wishes to be ordained, except for the topknot. It means that the Khenpo should keep the topknot for the one who wishes to be ordained, and then shave the hair and beard, that is, shave them off. This indicates: The Khenpo should keep the topknot of the one who wishes to be ordained for the sake of questioning, while the hair and beard should all be shaved off. If the barber appointed by the Khenpo shaves the hair and beard, then there is no fault in that either. "Except for the topknot" refers to the situation where there is no topknot when shaving the hair and beard. That is, except for the topknot, shave the hair and beard, that is, keep the topknot, and then shave the hair and beard, which is a synonym. The necessity of keeping the topknot is to fully understand through questioning whether this person who wishes to be ordained is certain to be ordained or not. So, when should her topknot be shaved? After asking, 'Shave the topknot?' then shave it.

Saying, "Let it be so." To the one who desires to renounce, one should ask, "Shall the hair knot be cut off?" If, after asking, that one, desiring to renounce, offers to cut it, then, because it is offered, that hair knot should be cut off. The one who desires to renounce, having shaved the hair and beard in this way, should bathe. The so-called "bathing" means washing with water suitable for the season. After bathing, the preceptor should give the monastic robes. The so-called "after bathing, the preceptor should give the monastic robes" means that after bathing, the preceptor should give to the one who desires to renounce robes dyed with colors that are in accordance with the manner of renunciation. The one who desires to renounce should also receive the robes by touching both feet to the ground. The so-called "the one who desires to renounce should also receive the robes by touching both feet to the ground" means that one should prostrate and receive those robes. After that, the preceptor should clothe them. The so-called "after that, the preceptor should clothe them" means that the preceptor himself should clothe the one who desires to renounce in those robes, should cover them, that is its meaning. When clothing, the preceptor should examine the genitals of the one who desires to renounce. The so-called "when clothing, the preceptor should examine the genitals of the one who desires to renounce" is in order to completely avoid the faults of eunuchs, hermaphrodites, the sexless, and the bisexual. The so-called "examine" means that one should examine in such a way that the one who desires to renounce would never think, "My genitals were seen by the preceptor," but not by stripping them naked. It is not certain that the genitals are examined only at the time of renunciation; like this, from the time that the preceptor himself promises, "I will ordain you," up to the point where it says "when clothing," one should pay attention. It is also not only the preceptor himself who must do it; if a trustworthy monk does this deed, and the preceptor hears of it, one should understand that the deed was done by the preceptor himself. One should accomplish renunciation by beginning to take refuge. The so-called "one should accomplish renunciation by beginning to take refuge" means that, like this, having known that the one who desires to renounce is free from faults such as food, after that, one should accomplish renunciation, one should obtain it. How should one accomplish it? By beginning to take refuge. That is, the very first beginning of accomplishing renunciation is beginning to take refuge. Thus it is taught.
