If, starting from the beginning, one bathes within the fourteenth day before the fifteenth day, it is said to be a transgression. If calculated in this way, it will be in accordance with what the Bhagavan said, "Bathe every half month." If one starts counting from the day one bathes, then the day of bathing becomes the sixteenth day. This contradicts the statement "Bathe every fifteen days." Therefore, on whatever day a bhikshu bathes, starting from the completion of the bath, one should not take another bath on that same day. Except for that day, the fifteen days thereafter are said to be the days for bathing. If one bathes on those days, it becomes a transgression. How should one bathe? Therefore, it is said, "By empowerment or by entering (the water)." Empowerment means pouring water from above the body in the manner of empowerment, using a vase or the like, and washing with it. Entering (the water) means entering the water and washing with it. To what extent must the water cover the body for it to be considered a bath? Therefore, it is said, "Reaching the navel." If the water reaches the navel, it is considered a bath. In this case, with empowerment, starting from the crown of the head, the water reaching the navel, and with entering (the water), starting from the soles of the feet, reaching the navel, both of these methods constitute a complete transgression. With empowerment, if one wets the hands and feet but not the head, and similarly, with entering (the water), if one wets the forearms and shins but not the soles of the feet, one commits a minor offense. If only the part above the back of the navel is wetted by the water and does not reach below, or if only the part below is wetted by the water and does not reach above, one also commits a minor offense. If both empowerment and entering (the water) are started at the same time, then if the two meet in the direction of the navel, it constitutes one complete transgression. Because this is the nature of completeness, therefore, reaching the upper or lower part of the navel's direction is what is actually meant by the navel mentioned here. Therefore, even if one does not reach the navel, it is sufficient if the direction is combined.

If it turns out that way, it will become a transgression, and if it is not allowed, it is a misdeed. The meaning of 'in front' is a misdeed: preparing before touching the water, one should know that this is the misdeed of preparation. The meaning of 'even if it is not water' is: if one bathes with oil, butter, honey, milk, and so on, it will become a misdeed. Here, the scripture is, if a monk bathes with substances other than water, what offense will he incur? It is said to be a misdeed. Although everything has its time, if it is not blessed, it means: not only bathing, but all objects of training have their time, but if they are not blessed and not manifested, it is a misdeed. Here, the scripture is, from the inquiry, will a monk also incur a transgression if he does not bless the time? There is a nearby one, it is said that he abandons the preparation and does not bless it. Abandoning what preparation to bathe with, even if there is a place, it is not manifested and blessed, this is the general statement. Bathing on the day of bathing every fifteen days, this is famous, so bathing there does not require blessing the time. The meaning of 'experiencing water while focusing on other things is not bathing' is: experiencing water while focusing on bathing itself is bathing, but experiencing water for other purposes is not bathing. Therefore, there is no transgression for unintentionally crossing a river and pouring water on someone who has fainted. Here, the scripture is, monks cross rivers, and other scriptures also mention pouring water on someone who has fainted, and there is no transgression for falling from a bridge. There is no transgression for crossing a river and making offerings from a place full of water. In the land of Asmaparanta, one should know that this is not there, meaning: in the place called Asmaparanata, one should know that there is no rule for bathing. Here, the scripture is, bathing is allowed in the land of Asmaparanta. Therefore, that is wisdom approaching
