It is not so. Similarly, if another monk takes the share of another monk, and another takes his own share, there is no fault in that either. The saying, 'It is not so without being entrusted,' means that if a monk has not entrusted me, saying, 'Please take my share so that a certain monk can receive a share,' but the monk who has not been entrusted takes the share that the monk who is the benefactor is not entitled to, then for the one who is the benefactor, it is not without basis, because he did not take it himself, nor did he entrust it to another. Others explain the meaning of this sutra in another way, saying, 'If a monk, without being entrusted, takes with a possessive mind anything that does not belong to another, know that this is not without basis.' As it is recorded in the scriptures, in the country of Kosala (one of the sixteen great kingdoms of ancient India), when the Sangha distributes food, a resident monk goes to another village, and his proxy monk takes his food, and when he returns, (the proxy monk) says, 'I took your food.' That monk says, 'Why did you take my food without being entrusted?' That monk feels remorse, and the Blessed One teaches, 'There is no fault, but one should not take without being entrusted.' The saying, 'Eating food without being invited is a fault,' means that if a monk eats the food of a benefactor without being invited, it is a fault. There are two kinds of offerings received without invitation: the benefactor knows, 'Although I have not invited him, I will still give,' or he gives without knowing. In both of these cases, it is a fault, because it is not in accordance with the rules. Because it is not un-given, and there is no intention to steal, it will not be a Parajika offense, nor will it be a Sanghavasesa offense. Some say that this is a Parajika offense, but they have not examined it well. As it is recorded in the scriptures, a monk ate food without being invited and felt remorse, and the Blessed One taught, 'It will not be a Parajika offense, but it will be a Duskrta offense.' Here, it is only allowed if there is no demonic influence and no intention to steal.

It should be taken, because the giver himself gives, where would the thought of stealing arise? If offerings and the like are obtained, it is only a fault, because it is not the conduct of a noble being. Going for the sake of stealing is also a fault, which is synonymous with saying that going to become a thief is also a fault. Then, this sutra does not need to be written, because 'the action of action itself' can understand this reason. If you ask like that, the answer is: it is true, but this sutra was written to explain the scope of the next sutra. If this sutra had not been written, then its main content and the difference from the next sutra would not be known. From the discussion there, it is not different, meaning that going for the sake of stealing is not different from the discussion there, because it belongs to the same category. It is explained like this, before the action, discussing whether to go there or not, and the action of language, stretching out the hand, turning the head, etc., all belong to the same category, so there will be no different faults. Like this, from the beginning of the discussion until before the robbery, it should be regarded as one fault. Is it not occupied? It should be carefully examined and taken away, meaning that towels and the like, in any case, are they not occupied? Is this not occupied by others? Like this, it should be carefully examined separately, and if it is determined that no one occupies it, it can be taken. If you do this, you will not regret it yourself, and there will be no opportunity for others to criticize. Do not stretch the body, meaning that stretching and relaxing the body is stretching the body, because the posture is chaotic, so do not stretch the body. This refers to the bhikkhu stretching his body and lying down in front of the plowing field, and the Blessed One said that the bhikkhu should not make that kind of stretching posture, which is a summary of that passage. Do not destroy the nest, meaning that the bhikkhu should not destroy the nests inhabited by sparrows and pigeons, etc.
