"White like the rootstock of a lotus and a conch" means the smiling teeth, and "smile" means slightly blooming. "Therefore" is synonymous with "for this reason." "Teaching" means indicating. "With one's own wisdom" means with one's own wisdom. "After knowing the time" means after knowing the time of the prophecy. "Sage, supreme leader, tamer of beings" and so on are also words of indication, "Sage" and "supreme leader," and "tamer of beings, chief of noble individuals" are synonymous. "The assembly of listeners with doubts" means those who listen with doubts. Please connect it by saying, "Please dispel the doubts that have arisen in them." With what kind of words should they be dispelled? Therefore, it is said, "With the words of teaching, and the excellent virtues," "steadfast" means unmoving. "Excellent" means because it is excellent in meaning, and profound. "Virtuous" means because it is good, and without fault. "Salt water" means the ocean. "King of mountains" means Mount Meru, the king of mountains. Those who are as steadfast as these two are as steadfast as the salt water is to Mount Meru. What are those? They are "The Buddhas, protectors," and so on. It is so, it is so, it is a concordant teaching, repeated twice for the sake of reverence. "Without cause" means without cause. "Without conditions" means separated from conditions. "Subdued" means abiding equally with the mind, afflictions.

Like a brahmin refers to the example of readers. Like a wise doctor refers to the example of Buddhists. Like a hero refers to the example of those who came before. Like a road builder refers to the example of roads. Like a boatman refers to the example of those who agree in meaning. Like a merchant refers to the example of merchants. Like a king of a castle refers to the example of border dwellers. Like a wheel-turning king refers to the example of the inhabitants of Jambudvipa. Like the moon refers to the example of those who have manifest opportunities. Like the sun refers to the example of those who delight in the sun. Like Dhritarashtra and other great kings refers to the example of those who dwell on the terraces of Mount Meru. Like a good rope maker refers to the example of those who dwell on Mount Yoke-Bearer. Like Vaishravana refers to the example of those who dwell on the summit of Mount Meru. Like Brahma refers to the example of those who dwell in the Brahma world.
