Not to slander means not to slander others in any way, whether correctly or incorrectly. Not to harm means not to harm others by beating, harsh words, and so on. The Pratimoksha should also be guarded. The so-called Pratimoksha refers to the seven types of vows that abandon killing, not taking what is given, non-celibacy, lying, frivolous speech, and harsh language. To guard it is to completely protect it. Through its characteristic of abstaining and its characteristic of practice, it should be known that it shows the higher training in morality. One should also be aware of the measure of food. That is, monks should also be aware of the measure of food for lawful food. One should fully know the measure of how much food will not make the body heavy or uncomfortable. One should abide in a remote place. That is, one should abide in a solitary place at the edge. It should be known that this shows the assembly for meditating on the path of those whose body and place are well suited. One should apply oneself correctly to the higher mind. The so-called higher mind is that which completely tames the mind, that is, by which one tames the obscuration of desire and the obscuration of ignorance, thereby taming the mind. That is also meditation with outflows and without outflows. To apply oneself correctly to it is to practice yoga correctly. It should be known that this shows the training in higher mind and the training in higher wisdom. This is the Buddha's teaching. That is to say, what the Thus-Gone One has briefly taught is the path with the assembly, and that is the Buddha's teaching, which is the concluding statement. The disciples of the Bhagavan, the Thus-Gone One, who protect all, even if there are minor faults, such as merely associating with householders, in order to completely eliminate these faults, the Bhagavan recited the Pratimoksha Sutra in this abbreviated form every half month. Just as a bee from a flower, without harming the color and fragrance, extracts the essence and flies away, so too the Able One.

I wander. This is the name. Therein, just as the living being, the bee, does not harm the color and smell of the flower, but extracts the essence and flies away, so too, the capable, fully ordained one, when wandering in the city for alms, should not harm the mind and discipline of the city, which are like color and smell, but should take food like essence and leave, this is the word of instruction. The disciples of the Bhagavan Tathagata, who destroy the cycle of existence, have become minor offenders. Since they only discriminate between the causes and merits of others, in order to completely abandon those faults, the Bhagavan summarized the Pratimoksha Sutra in this way, and taught it every half month. My lineage and non-lineage, should be examined, of others, those who are incompatible, of others, what has been done and not done, not. This is the name. Therein, my lineage and non-lineage, should be examined, which means that I should examine my own lineage and non-lineage separately. Of others, those who are incompatible, means the non-lineage of others. Of others, what has been done and not done, not. Means One should not examine the completeness and incompleteness of others. Thus it is taught, that those who discriminate between the merits and faults of others, then attachment and anger arise, therefore abandoning discrimination against others, one should examine oneself, desiring one's own mind, then later there will be an opportunity to examine others. Thus it is taught. The disciples of the Bhagavan Tathagata Golden Sage, have also become minor offenders. Since they only generate meditation with desire, in order to completely abandon those faults, the Bhagavan summarized the Pratimoksha Sutra in this way, and taught it every half month. Be careful with the higher mind, learn at the place of the capable of the capable, peaceful, always mindful, the protector is without sorrow. This is the name. Therein, the higher mind, means the four meditations. Be careful with that, means abandon desire and pride and holding views as supreme, be careful. In order to show the abandonment and then show the learning, the capable

Should learn the basis of the capable. Thus it is said, the capable one is the one who possesses wisdom, capable because of repeatedly acting, that is, the Buddha, the Bhagavan. The basis of capability of that capable one is the four noble truths, because they give rise to the capable one. To learn that is the ultimate learning and earnestness. What is learning that for? For the sake of showing the result. Near peace, always possessing mindfulness. Protector, free from sorrow. Thus it is said, it should be known that near peace and always possessing mindfulness show protection. That near peace is equanimity, because it is subdued by body and speech. Always possessing mindfulness means always abiding in mindfulness. Protector means protecting one's own mind. Being without sorrow shows the exhaustion of birth, it should be known as transcendence of sorrow. The disciples of the Bhagavan, the Tathagata Kashyapa Buddha, also became those with small faults, because they only had disrespect for giving and seeing many enemies, so that their faults would be completely eliminated, that Bhagavan showed the ultimate Dharma, so the Pratimoksha Sutra was abbreviated and recited every half month. Giving increases merit, well-tamed enemies and others do not change, possessing virtue abandons sins, exhaustion of afflictions transcends sorrow. Thus it is said. That giving is the name of giving, because it makes the meritorious deeds with the fruit of enjoyment increase greatly. By taming the precepts well, enemies and others do not change, because the precepts do not give rise to the cause of enemies, such as killing, stealing, and attachment to women. Possessing virtue means obtaining the four dhyanas. Because it is able to completely abandon the sins of acting in desire, such as anger, which mature into unwanted results. By the noble path, all afflictions are completely exhausted, then one can obtain the extinction of suffering with remainder and without remainder. Therefore, giving is the fruit of samsara.
