Na (ན་) indicates showing the abandonment of five places of conduct that are not suitable for the body. What are these five? One should not frequent the royal palace, the house of a low caste, the house of a wine seller or musician, and the house of a prostitute. By diligently training in these three paths of action, one will attain the path spoken of by the sages. The term "path" is an analogy. Just as people walk and travel on a path, so too on the path of body, speech, and mind, virtuous and non-virtuous things move and travel, thus resembling a path. By diligently training in these three, one becomes free from defilements and trains without faults, thus it is called the straight path. What is attained through it is the teaching of the Tathagata, therefore, by practicing the eight limbs of the Noble Path in accordance with the scriptures, one will attain the fruits of the eight persons. Therefore, when the Buddha Shakyamuni was alive, his Shravaka disciples were disciplined and liberated by these verses for twelve years, and they practiced accordingly. After thirteen years, places for studying the Vinaya were established. Mentioning the seven Buddhas of the past is a concluding statement, summarizing what was said earlier as "this is it" and then correctly explaining it below. Shakyamuni Buddha, Gautama (གཽ་ཏམ།), this is praise from the perspective of a householder. The term "Thubpa (ཐུབ་པ་, Sage)" refers to the one who is able to prevent faults from arising from the three doors of body, speech, and mind. The term "Gautama (གཽ་ཏམ།)" is praise from the aspect of the categories of qualities. The term "God of Gods" refers to the fact that there are two types of gods: worldly gods and liberated gods. When Shakyamuni Buddha forgot the great worldly god of his lineage, Prince Siddhartha was born, and Prince Siddhartha prostrated to that god, and that god's head split into seven pieces. Therefore, he became even more superior, so Shakyamuni Buddha was named "God of Gods." The untamable refers to the fact that when Shakyamuni Buddha descended into the world, it was a degenerate age, and beings were very difficult to tame. Therefore, taming such beings means taming the untamable.

The five degenerations are the degeneration of beings, views, afflictions, the eon, and life. Because they cannot be subdued during the time of the five degenerations, they are called unsubduable. Taming refers to guiding beings of the three realms from afflictions to the supreme path. Unsurpassed means that it is not like the small scope of taming by hearers and solitary realizers, or even Brahma and Indra, but is vast and supreme, hence it is called unsurpassed. "World Protector, Supreme Savior." World refers to the five aggregates of appropriation. Protector refers to the Tathagata, who has become the protector of all beings. Saving refers to saving from evil deeds and falling into evil destinies, and leading to liberation, hence it is called saving. Supreme means that although there are many saviors, there is none like the saving of the Buddha. Therefore, the saving of the Buddha is shown to be supreme. When the seven Buddhas are mentioned, some people here become doubtful, wondering whether Buddhas will appear after the seven Buddhas. To explain that Buddhas will appear later, the basis comes from the Sutra of the Good Aeon, which mentions that there are three eons: the fire eon, the wind eon, and the water eon. When the water eon flourishes and changes, such signs appear in the clear light realm: Tathagatas will appear in the world, and lotuses will grow from ponds. At that time, seven thousand-petaled lotuses grew from a large pond, and the gods said: "How wonderful! This is a sign that seven thousand Tathagatas will appear." From these lotuses, seven Buddhas have already passed away, from Vipashyin Buddha to Shakyamuni Buddha. Among the seven thousand-petaled lotuses, seven have already passed away, and the remaining thousand will also pass away. The last one will be the Tathagata named Vajrapani, who will benefit beings. Hero means not being tired or retreating from the work of benefiting beings, and being able to destroy the enemies of afflictions and demons, therefore called a hero. Or, because they have benefited beings for countless eons, they are called heroes. The seven refer to the Buddhas who appeared earlier, from Vipashyin Buddha to Shakyamuni Buddha.
