of aggregates. Here, the meaning of form and so on mentioned are the support of the consciousness of those. Eyes and so on with forms and so on, form and sound, smell and taste, the support of the consciousness of touch and so on, that is, the five that become the nature of form, those should be known in order as eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and speech. The five faculties have been described. The five objects should be described, that is, the two kinds of form, color and shape. Also that, called twenty kinds, that is, blue, yellow, red, white, long, short, square, round, high, low, flat, uneven, cloud, smoke, dust, fog, shadow, sunlight, light, darkness. Among them, flat is even in shape. Uneven is uneven in shape. Fog is mist. Sunlight is the light of sunlight. Light is the light of the moon and stars, fire and medicine and jewels and so on. Shadow is where the forms appear. The opposite is darkness. The rest are not distinguished because they are easy to understand. Sound has eight kinds, arising from the cause of the great elements with and without grasping, sentient and non-sentient, that is, four kinds. Also, it becomes eight kinds by the difference of pleasant and unpleasant. Among them, that which arises from the cause of the great elements with grasping is the sound of hand and speech. That which arises from the cause of the great elements without grasping is the sound of wind and forest and river. That which appears as sentient is the expressive sound of speech. The other is not appearing as sentient. Also, since all sounds are included in two and two, it is said that there are four kinds of sound. Sound has been described. Taste has six kinds, by the difference of sweet, sour, salty, spicy, bitter, astringent. Smell has four kinds, smell and odor, by the reason of equal and unequal. Touch has eleven natures, the four elements and, smoothness and, roughness and, heaviness and, lightness

And also cold, hunger, and thirst. Regarding these, the elements such as earth, water, fire, and wind will be discussed below. Smoothness is slipperiness. Roughness is roughness. Heaviness is what is used to measure things. The opposite is lightness. Cold is wanting warmth. Hunger is wanting food. Thirst is wanting drink. Because the result comes from the cause, for example, "The elements of the Buddhas are happiness," and so on. What is non-revealing form? Distraction and mindlessness, the continuity of virtue and non-virtue, having the great elements as their cause, that is said to be non-revealing form. What is called a distracted mind is the function of the mind that is different from that. What is called the function of mindlessness is the function of non-perception and cessation samadhi. The word "function" also indicates that it is not the function of non-distraction and having a mind. What is called virtue and non-virtue is what is good and not good. What is called continuity is continuity. Because there is also such a continuity of attainment, in order to differentiate, it is said, "having the great elements as their cause." What is meant by having them as a cause is the meaning of cause, because it is the nature of the cause of production and so on. What is called "that is non-revealing form," the word "that" is to make people know its name, although it is the nature of form and function, but like revealing form, it is not revealing form to others. What is called "saying" is to show that these are the words of the teacher. In short, the form arising from revealing form and samadhi, virtue and non-virtue, is non-revealing form. What are those that are said to have the great elements as their cause? The elements are the earth element, the water element, the fire element, and the wind element. They are the elements because they maintain their own characteristics, and because they are the form of the cause and the maintainer. These are the basis of all other forms, because they are coarse, they are great. Or, the nature arising from that, the aggregates of earth, water, fire, and wind, those that are mostly involved in action.
