Therefore, that which is called "characteristic" is an independent agent. So what is an agent like? Whatever is the main cause of something is called an agent. It is said that it arises mainly dependent on it. If that is not possible, it cannot be an agent, which means that it cannot be the essence of the main cause. To show that it is not the cause, it is explained in detail that desire arises from memory. First, memory arises for the object to be remembered. From memory arises desire, which is the desire to do. From desire arises conceptualization, which the Lesser Vehicle masters say is the characteristic of coarse mind. Others say that the characteristic of definite conceptualization is the difference of wisdom. From conceptualization arises complete control, which is diligence. From effort arises wind. From wind arises karma, and if the characteristic of occurring elsewhere arises, what do I do about it? That is hindering the ability. Because the ability is hindered from consciousness, it means that if the object is consciousness, then it is only the mind that depends entirely on the difference of formations, and not even a little of my action is seen, just as when the fruit of medicine ripens, a bad doctor recites "P'u Svaha" (Tibetan: ཕུ་སྭཱ་ཧཱ།), so in consciousness my ability is hindered. If there is no self, why do sins and merits not approach even in places that are not the basis of sentient beings, etc.? It is explained that it is because there are no faculties. The cause by which the cause of manifesting a body with faculties is established is not present in earth and stones, etc., therefore they are not with faculties. For the same reason, it is said that it is not the basis of feeling, and its basis is the six sources. As it is, it has been explained, which means that because those changes change, the basis is the eyes, etc. To this, the dependent and the relied upon are called dependent on me. This style of speech has been answered, which means what kind of basis is what kind? Those are not dependent like paintings and cuckoos, etc., but like walls and foundations.

It is unreasonable to rely on things like barley, because there is the fault of obstruction and separateness. The so-called "born from it" means that the seed gives rise to the power of another name. The so-called "as said" means the Vinaya holder Rahula. "What is near and what is habitual," etc., broadly speaking, there are four karmas in one cause, namely, heavy, near, habitual, and previously done. Among them, the heavy karma matures before the three. The near, habitual, and previous doers also mature before the two by the near one. The habitual and previous doers also mature before the one by the habitual one. If there are none of these, then the karma done in the previous life will mature in a different number of retributions. "Those who are not afflicted constantly turn their minds" refers to those who are virtuous and unobscured and unindicated. "Born from the difference of transformation" means that from the combination of earth and water, the subtle transformation of the fruit is transformation. Its difference is that it is a differentiated one, and the difference of transformation arises in it, or other fruits arise from it. In order to show from what the difference of transformation arises, it is said that the transformation arises in it, and what can accomplish the sprout is its seed. The sprout is its seed. It is not the transformation of other arising, which means that it is not the meaning of the transformation of the state of the previous seed. "By the name of transformation" means that, as it is said, how to grind flour, etc., so the name of transformation is established, so the previous continuum, from the state of the seed that has not been destroyed, will also give rise to the name of transformation, called the seed. "Because of similarity" means that the previous continuum is also similar to the difference of transformation arising, and because it arises from transformation, it is called a seed. "Likewise, here also," etc., broadly speaking, means that if the continuum of the contaminated virtuous mind arises from the difference of the causes and conditions of hearing the Dharma and thinking reasonably,
