Up to "only increase merit," as before. The merit of a son or daughter of good family who has faith and possesses these seven things that produce merit from material things cannot be measured by saying, "There is only this much merit" or "There is only this much ripening fruit." However, because the merit is great, it is counted as a "great accumulation of merit," and so on. In between the two times, the venerable *Skul-byed* (Sanskrit: Preraka, meaning "instigator") also requested the Blessed One in this way: "Venerable one, is it possible to measure the fruit of the merit-making activity that is not produced from material things, from great to vast?" The Blessed One replied to *Skul-byed*, "It is possible to measure." These seven *Skul-byed* are merit-making activities that are not produced from material things. A son or daughter of good family who has faith and possesses them, for whatever reason, will increase merit, up to "only increase merit." What are the seven? *Skul-byed*: If a son or daughter of good family hears that the Tathagata or the Tathagata's *shravaka* is dwelling in a certain town or village, and upon hearing this, obtains great joy, exceeding joy, vastness, virtue, and definite benefit, then this *Skul-byed* is the first merit-making activity that is not produced from material things, up to "only increase merit," as before. Another *Skul-byed*: If a son or daughter of good family hears that the Tathagata or the Tathagata's *shravaka* is about to come, and upon hearing this, obtains great joy and exceeding joy, up to as before. This *Skul-byed* is the second merit-making activity that is not produced from material things, up to "only increase merit," as before. Another *Skul-byed*: If a son or daughter of good family hears that the Tathagata or the Tathagata's *shravaka* has entered the road to that very town or village, and upon hearing this, obtains joy.
