In order to counteract the four types of perversions, the four mindfulnesses are explained in order, neither too many nor too few. Among them, three are focused on unmixed objects. The fourth is both, if one only observes the Dharma, then it is focused on an unmixed object. However, if one observes the totality of two, three, or four of the body and so on, then it is focused on a mixed object. In this way, by familiarizing oneself with the mindfulnesses that focus on the body and so on, that is the Dharma mindfulness, abiding in the general object. Observe impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness in these. Abiding in the Dharma mindfulness that focuses on mixed objects, combining all these bodies and so on in general, observe the four aspects of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. From this, warmth arises. By familiarizing oneself with Dharma mindfulness in this way, gradually the merit called the increase of the root of virtue arises. Because it is similar to warmth, it is warmth, because it is the precursor of the fire of the noble path that burns the firewood of afflictions. It is that which has the four truths as its object. Because warmth is continuous, it focuses on the four truths. Sixteen aspects. In suffering, observe the four aspects of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. In origin, observe the four aspects of cause, arising, production, and condition. In cessation, observe the four aspects of cessation, peace, excellence, and definite emergence. In the path, observe the four aspects of path, reason, practice, and definite leading, the distinctions of these will be explained below. From warmth, the peak. Through the gradual increase of small, medium, and large warmth, the peaks also arise, and they are the same as warmth. Just as warmth focuses on the four truths and has sixteen aspects, because it is the most excellent, it is given another name. Because it is the peak of the moving root of virtue, it is the peaks, because one will fall or decline from them. Both bestow the aspect of Dharma. Both warmth and the peak are Dharma mindfulness.

Mindfulness creates images. What does it mean to create images? It means initially establishing images on the truths. Others can also increase them, and all four mindfulnesses increase them. When increasing images, what was previously attained does not manifest, because there is no great joy. From this, tolerance also arises, and from those that manifest and increase in the order of small, medium, and large, tolerance also arises, because one becomes more tolerant of the truth in a way that does not completely diminish. That also has three aspects: small, medium, and large. Among them, two are like that. As previously stated, those at the peak, small and medium tolerance are also similar to that, because they abandon images in the same way. There is this difference in increasing images: tolerance is that everything increases by dharma, and dharma only increases by mindfulness, not by others. The great one belongs to the realm of suffering in the desire realm. The word tolerance should be added, because it is close to the peak of dharma, so it focuses only on the suffering experienced in the desire realm. For that very reason, the determination of the warm stage etc. is not mentioned, so it is established that it focuses on the suffering of the three realms etc. When the images of truth, such as the antidotes to form and formlessness, are focused on and gradually reduced, until the suffering experienced in the desire realm is contemplated for two moments, all of that is medium tolerance, and when there is only one moment, then it is called great. That is one moment. That is one moment, not continuous. Similarly, the peak of dharma. Those are also like great tolerance, focusing on the suffering experienced in the desire realm, and are single moments. Those are both worldly and the peak of dharma, because they are the most supreme of all worldly things, so they are the peak of worldly dharma, because they lead the path by their power without equal merit. Those such as the warm stage are mindfulness.
