Like those with land. Some, because they do not separately examine, only attain cessation, like the uncontaminated conditioned phenomena, those with the nature of non-arising. Some attain both, like the contaminated phenomena, those with the nature of non-arising. Some do not attain either, like the uncontaminated past, present, and future phenomena. The three categories of unconditioned phenomena have been explained. Conditioned phenomena other than the path, what are those conditioned phenomena that are said to be contaminated? Those conditioned phenomena are also the five aggregates, such as form. The aggregate of form, the aggregate of feeling, the aggregate of perception, the aggregate of mental formations, and the aggregate of consciousness, these are the conditioned phenomena. Those that are made by the gathering and meeting of conditions are conditioned phenomena; there is nothing produced by a single condition. Because they are of the same kind, there is no contradiction with the future, just like milk and trees. Those are time, the basis of speech, and definite emergence with a basis. Those are the conditioned phenomena. Because of being gone, going, and going to be, or because of being consumed by impermanence, they are times. Speech is words. Its basis is name, because the basis with meaning is mentioned, so conditioned phenomena are the basis of speech. If it were not so, it would contradict the statement in the Vibhāṣā that "the bases of speech are included in the eighteen elements." What arises without being devoured by demons is definite emergence, which is the nirvāṇa of all conditioned phenomena. Because these have it, they are those with definite emergence. Because they are with causes, they are those with a basis. The Vaibhāṣikas say that the word "basis" means cause. Thus, those are synonyms for conditioned phenomena. Again, those conditioned phenomena, which are the contaminated aggregates of appropriation? The aggregates are also those. What does this establish? Whatever are the five aggregates of appropriation, those are also aggregates. Those that are only aggregates and not aggregates of appropriation,

Also, there are those, which are the uncontaminated formations. For those, the clinging is the afflictions. Because they arise from those, they are the aggregates of clinging, like a fire of grass and straw, or, because they depend on those, like the people of a king. Or, because the clinging arises from those, they are the aggregates of clinging, like trees with flowers and fruits. Those contaminated dharmas themselves are also called contentious. Contention is the afflictions, because they harm oneself and others. Because those cause them to increase, they are contentious, like being contaminated. Suffering, origin, world, as well as the realm of gods, existence, are also those. Because they are inconsistent with the noble ones, they are suffering. From this suffering arises, therefore it is origin. Because it is destroyed, it is the world. Because it exists in a way that increases by viewing, it is the place of viewing. Because it arises, it is existence. Thus, these are the names of the contaminated dharmas, which are consistent with the meaning. The five aggregates, such as form, are spoken of. Form is the five faculties and the five objects, and non-revealing matter. The five faculties are the faculties of eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body, and the five objects are the objects of those themselves, which are form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, and non-revealing matter, these are the aggregate of form. Among those, what are the form, etc., that are spoken of? Those are the support of the consciousnesses, the eye, etc., with form. The support of the consciousnesses of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, the five that are the nature of having form, which are in order the eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body, should be known. As the Bhagavan said: Bhikshu, the eye is the internal source of birth, the four great elements are the cause, it is with form. Like this, he spoke extensively. Or, what are the eye, etc., that are spoken of? Those are the support of the consciousnesses, the eye, etc., with form. The eye consciousness, etc.
