Question: What are the types of "the nature of being distant," and how many types of the nature of being distant are there? Answer: It is said that there are four types of the nature of being distant, namely: different characteristics, different directions; the cessation of all realms, and time; the direction of arising and discipline, and the duration of the two times, and so on. The distance of characteristics is like, for example, although the great elements arise together, they are distant because of their different characteristics. The distance of antidotes is like, for example, discipline arising from the discipline of immorality. The distance of realms is like, for example, the realm of kalpas being completely cut off, like the eastern and western oceans. The distance of time is like, for example, the past and the future. What is meant by "distant," and from what is it distant? It is distant from that place. How are the immediately past and the about-to-be-born distant? They are distant because of the difference in time, not because they arose after a long time, or because of arising itself. In this way, they will also become distant. If so, then it is distant by action. How can the unconditioned achieve closeness? Because it can be obtained everywhere. There will also be faults with the past and the future. How is space also close? If so, then the past and the future are distant from each other because they are cut off by the present. Thus, it is close because it is close to both, and the unconditioned is also close because there is no separation. Even so, it will become both because it is close to the past, the future, and the present. It is reasonable to say that the future is distant from the nature of the Dharma because it has not yet been obtained, and the past is distant because it has been destroyed. If the paths are different, will the abandonment of afflictions also be different again and again? Answer: No, because all afflictions are abandoned only once. Whatever path of abandonment is used, it is only abandoned by that path. When are the attainments of their abandonment? Answer: At six times, namely: when the antidote arises and the fruit is obtained, and when the faculties increase, and so on. This is considered to be the path of liberation that is not an antidote. The fruits, etc., are

The four fruits of the method of liberation. The complete growth of the faculties is the transformation of the five faculties. At those times, the liberation from afflictions is attained. Among them, some consider it is attained in six periods, while others consider it is attained in two periods. That liberation itself, in those specific stages, obtains the name "complete knowledge." Complete knowledge is of two types: the complete knowledge of wisdom and the complete knowledge of abandonment. Among them, the complete knowledge of wisdom is the uncontaminated wisdom. The complete knowledge of abandonment is merely abandonment, because the cause is established on the effect. If all abandonment is a single complete knowledge, is it? The answer is: no. Then what is it like? There are nine complete knowledges. Among them, let's first talk about the desire realm: The first two, exhaustion is one. In the desire realm, the first two aspects, that is, the abandonment of what is to be abandoned by seeing suffering and origin, is one complete knowledge. The two exhaustions are those two. Only in the desire realm, the abandonment of the aspect of what is to be abandoned by seeing cessation is one complete knowledge, and the abandonment of the aspect of what is to be abandoned by seeing the path is also one. Just as in the desire realm, the abandonment of what is to be abandoned by practice is three complete knowledges, similarly, the higher realms are also those three. Similarly, in the form and formless realms, the abandonment of the aspect of what is to be abandoned by practice is also three complete knowledges, that is, the abandonment of what is to be abandoned by seeing suffering and origin is one. The abandonment of what is to be abandoned by seeing cessation is two. The abandonment of what is to be abandoned by seeing the path is three. Thus, because of the three realms, the abandonment of what is to be abandoned by seeing is six complete knowledges. The other three complete knowledges are: the form similar to the final part, and the exhaustion of all defilements. The abandonment of what is similar to the final part is also one complete knowledge. The abandonment of the defilements of form is also one, that is, the complete knowledge of the exhaustion of desire for form. The abandonment of all defilements is also one, that is, the complete knowledge of completely destroying all bonds. Why the form and formless realms
