Therefore, due to its nature, it is included in the mind and the dharma-dhātu. The five kinds of liberation-dhātu, because they are the nature of wisdom, are included in the dharma-dhātu. If accompanied by retinues, they are included in the sound, mind, and dharma-dhātu. From the two dhātus, the unconscious beings are included in the fourteen kinds of smell and taste dhātus. Approaching the state of neither perception nor non-perception, they are included in the mind and dharma-dhātu. Likewise, among the many dhātus, the sixty-two dhātus that are spoken of should also be understood to be included as appropriate. Among them, if the six dhātus such as the earth-dhātu, water-dhātu, fire-dhātu, wind-dhātu, space-dhātu, and consciousness-dhātu are spoken of, and the nature of two of them is not explained, is it not that the space-dhātu is just the space-dhātu, and all consciousness should also be understood as the consciousness-dhātu? The answer is no. What is it then? The answer is that gaps such as doors, windows, mouths, and noses are called the space-dhātu. What should be understood as a gap? Is it light and darkness? A gap is something that cannot be taken apart from light and darkness. Therefore, it should be understood that the space-dhātu is the nature of light and darkness, the nature of night and day. That itself is called the form of the nearby environment that is obstructed, so-called obstructed, because it is very easy to be harmed, it is the form that dwells accumulated, that is its environment. Others say that because others cannot obstruct it, it is also unobstructed, and because it is also the nearby environment of other forms, it is an unobstructed nearby environment. Consciousness with outflows is the consciousness-dhātu. Why is it not spoken of in the case of those without outflows? Thus, these six dhātus are intended to be the basis of birth, they are the basis of birth from the mind of rebirth to the mind of death, but the dharmas without outflows are not like that. Therefore, in that way, four of those dhātus are included in the touch-dhātu. The fifth is included in the form-dhātu.

The aggregates are included in the seven consciousness realms. If someone asks, among the eighteen realms that have been taught, which ones can be indicated and which ones cannot? The answer is: those that can be indicated are, 'It is here, it is here, it is in such and such a place,' in this way it can be indicated. The rest are said to be un-indicatable. If someone asks, which are with obstruction and which are without obstruction? The answer is: those with obstruction are the ten forms. Whatever ten realms are said to be included in the form aggregate are those with obstruction. Obstruction means to hinder. It has three aspects: obstruction to obscuration, obstruction to object, and obstruction to object of focus. Among these, obstruction to obscuration is that which hinders the arising of other things in its own realm. For example, a hand or a stone obstructs the touch of the hand, or the stone also obstructs both of them. Obstruction to object is when sense faculties such as the eye are obstructed by objects such as form. As it is said in the Establishment Treatise: 'There are eyes that are obstructed by water and whose realm is the land, like fish. There are those obstructed by land and whose realm is not water, like most people. There are those obstructed by both, like crocodiles that kill children, frogs, carnivores, and fishermen. There are those obstructed by neither, which are not those situations. Some eyes are obstructed at night but not during the day, like bats and owls. Those obstructed during the day but not at night are most people. Those obstructed both night and day are dogs, foxes, horses, mules, and cats. Those obstructed by neither are not those situations.' This is like what is said, this is obstruction to object. Obstruction to object of focus is when the mind and mental factors are obstructed by their own objects of focus. If someone asks, what is the difference between object and object of focus? The answer is: that to which something is done is the object; that which is apprehended by the mind and mental factors is the object of focus. Again, how is it called obstruction to entering the object of focus in one's own realm? The answer is: because it cannot enter other realms. Or, focusing on this is obstruction, entering one's own realm
