Therefore, the iron burning ground, is with burning people. In hundreds and thousands of yojanas, flames pervade. Thus it is said. What are the sixteen remaining places? On the four sides of them are: fire ash, decaying corpses, and rivers of sharp blades, etc. Each of their gates has four remaining places. Fire ash up to the knees, if beings place their feet there, the skin, flesh, and blood will be destroyed. When they lift their feet, the skin, flesh, and blood will grow back again. Decaying corpses are mud swamps of feces, where creatures called "sharp-beaked worms" live, their bodies all white, heads black, and beaks slender, and they pierce through the bones of those beings. A great road filled with sharp blades, when those beings walk, if they place their feet, the skin, flesh, and blood will be destroyed, as before. A place like leaves of swords, where sharp swords fall, and the limbs and hands and feet of those beings will be cut off, and jackals will also eat them. An iron shalmali mountain, sixteen sharp thorns, when those beings climb, the thorns will face downwards and pierce the body; when descending, the thorns will face upwards. Iron-beaked crows will pluck out the eyes and eat them. The path of blades and the like, the three of them, because they appear like weapons falling, are counted as one. The fourth remaining place is an immeasurable river filled with boiling ash water, where those beings are blocked by men on both banks holding swords, short spears, and rope spears. For example, like putting a pot filled with water on a stove, and putting sesame seeds, rice, thick porridge, and the like inside. Going upwards, they are boiled and cooked, and going downwards and directly, they are also boiled and cooked. It also surrounds the great hell like an abyss. These four remaining places are called sixteen because of the differences in direction. Because they are places of remaining harm, they are called remaining, that is, after causing harm in the hells, they cause harm here again. Others say, the bonds of hell beings.

It is said that they are called "superior" because they are immersed in these below. Another question arises from the question: Are those guardians of hell counted as sentient beings? If not, then how do they move? It is through the actions of sentient beings, like a forming whirlwind. Then, how should we understand what the venerable Chosden Rabjor said: "Those who are angry and violent, Who are extremely fond of sin, Those who delight in suffering, Will be born as Yama Rakshasas." Those who are sent by Yama to lead sentient beings to hell are called Yama Rakshasas, but not those who perform the actions. Others say that they are counted as sentient beings. Now, where do these actions ripen? In those very hells. Who can prevent those who commit the five heinous crimes from having the opportunity to ripen? How can those who dwell in fire not be burned? Because the fire does not consume indiscriminately, but is limited by actions. Or it is because of the distinctiveness of the elements. In short, these are called the great hot hells. There are also the eight cold hells, such as the Blister Hell. Furthermore, there are eight cold hells, namely: the Blister Hell, the Bursting Blister Hell, the Sothams Thams Hell, the Achu Hell, the Kyihud Hell, the Hell that Cracks Like an উৎপལ་ (Sanskrit: utpala, 乌 উৎপལ་, blue lotus), the Hell that Cracks Like a Lotus, and the Hell that Cracks Greatly Like a Lotus. It is said that these are where the bodies and sounds of sentient beings change and resemble each other due to being afflicted by unbearable cold. They are also located directly below the great hells beneath this Jambudvipa. How can there be opportunities for Avici and other hells just beneath this Jambudvipa? Because the continents are like the spokes of a wheel, with a wide base, and therefore the great ocean gradually slopes. Thus, these sixteen hells inhabited by sentient beings are all manifested by the power of the actions of all sentient beings. The neighboring hells are manifested by the individual actions of many, two, or one.
