It is not something else either. Even the mere negation of existence and non-existence as a common entity does not appear there, because those are without reason. So what is it like? It is merely a luminous body, because the distinctions of its own characteristics are transformed from the marks of false appearances, so those are not truly existent. The non-existence that appears there is what appears as emptiness. Therefore, it is like this: it is without characteristics. Having thoroughly distinguished in this way, until the body and mind become completely subdued, one must fully investigate and completely abandon the remaining habits through analysis. After that, with the activity of meditative stabilization accompanied by conceptual thought, focusing on the image of emptiness, without interruption on that mind, and continuously applying mindfulness without interruption, this is called the path of entering the union of calm abiding and special insight. From the instructions of the Perfection of Wisdom, the yoga ground that focuses on the suchness of all phenomena that have become as they are, is the third ground. A yogi who has entered the third yoga ground, even if he still engages in very subtle conceptualizations of phenomena, then the third ground is not complete. When he engages in very subtle conceptualizations of only the nature of phenomena, then it is said to be completely perfected. Furthermore, when, by the power of manifest cultivation through meditative equipoise on that which is completely perfected, following without effort and without manifest fabrication, the suchness of all phenomena is manifestly experienced directly, then the non-conceptual wisdom, the characteristics of phenomena and the nature of phenomena are completely extinguished, being non-dual and without confusion, without appearance and without object, the nature of non-conceptual calm abiding and special insight, running most clearly, the wisdom that transcends the world and is without outflows manifests, that is the fourth yoga ground, and as long as one sees from not having seen the ultimate truth, that much seeing is the path of seeing, and looking at that seeing itself is the path of cultivation. How much is the wisdom of suchness that is completely encompassed by the third ground?

It is like this: it distinguishes reality, although it is not non-distinguishing, but because it individually distinguishes reality, it is in accordance with the arising of non-distinction. Because it distinguishes reality. It is said in the Dharani of Entering Non-Distinction: Thus, the bodhisattva who manifests the characteristics of non-distinction, with the practice of non-appearance, until he has not touched the realm of non-distinction, should abandon and not pay attention to it. Moreover, in order for it to touch the realm of non-distinction, it is followed by the correct practice of the samadhi of the birthplace of reality, which is universally cultivated. It is followed by cultivation. It is followed by repeated practice. It is followed by correct attention, then without effort and without exertion, one will touch the realm of non-distinction, and gradually purify completely. Here, the realm of non-distinction is the wisdom of non-distinction. Touching is attainment. The birthplace is reality. How is it a birthplace? Because it is the cause of arising by focusing on it. Whose birthplace is it? It is the birthplace of the dharmas of the noble ones. Universal cultivation is what is taught in the scriptures, that is, the wisdom arising from hearing. Cultivation is the manifestation of cultivation, that is, the wisdom arising from thinking. Repeated practice is repeated attention, that is, the wisdom arising from cultivation. The third is correct attention. All these, with the power of cultivation, and the habits and the power initially established, are like a river continuously connected, that is, following them. Without effort and without exertion means not relying on individual efforts. Touching means attaining the Extremely Joyful Ground. Gradually means manifesting the higher ones from then on. Furthermore, what is the nature of the wisdom of non-distinction? What is the sign? What is the benefit? These three
