Non-stinginess, knowing shame, and having embarrassment are naturally virtuous. Feeling and, having virtuous perception, and diligence and other virtues are virtues of association. Conditioned phenomena not associated with mind, such as birth and aging, which are produced by a mind possessing virtue, are virtues of production. Cessation through individual examination and suchness are ultimate virtues. The five, namely desire, hatred, ignorance, lack of shame, and lack of embarrassment, within the aggregate of conditioned phenomena, are naturally non-virtuous. Feelings and perceptions associated with non-virtuous qualities, and afflictions close to them, such as harm, are non-virtuous by association. Conditioned phenomena not associated with mind, such as birth and aging, produced by a non-virtuous mind, are non-virtuous by production. The four within the aggregate of conditioned phenomena, which are also said to be in the category of the unspecified, are unspecified by association. Cessation not through individual examination and space are ultimately unspecified. The remaining eight are unspecified, which means that ten out of the eighteen elements are of all three types, and to show this, eight remain. What are they? Smell, taste, touch, eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body element, these eight. These eight are of an unspecified nature, and for these, there is neither virtue of nature, association, production, nor ultimate virtue, nor is there non-virtue of nature, association, production, nor ultimate non-virtue, but they are established solely as unspecified. 'How many inside' refers to the occasion of explaining the eighteen elements, so it means how many of the eighteen elements belong to the inner elements. 'Inner' refers to what belongs to one's own body. 'Twelve' means that twelve elements out of the eighteen elements are 'inner'. Because it is not known what these twelve inner elements are, therefore, form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and the element of phenomena.

Having mentioned the word "except," it means that by employing the external objects of form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharma, therefore, the six sense spheres from the eye sphere to the mind sphere, and the six consciousness spheres from the eye consciousness sphere to the mind consciousness sphere, these twelve spheres are called "internal." As for the word "external," that which is other than the body is called "external," meaning how many of the eighteen spheres belong to the external realm? To the question, "Which are the six that are excluded?" Whatever is not internal, that is, the six external objects of form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharma that are employed, are called "external." To the question, "How many are with an object?" Because this is when the eighteen spheres are being discussed, seven out of the eighteen spheres are with an object. Because it is not known what these seven spheres are, in order to explain what they are, it is said, "the seven mind spheres," meaning that the seven mind spheres are with an object. Question: Is it only the seven mind spheres that are called with an object? Are there no other objects? In order to show that it is not only the seven mind spheres that are with an object, but that there are others as well, it is said, "one aspect of the dharma sphere," meaning that of the eight substances of the dharma sphere, all are with an object, but one aspect of it is with an object. In short, the seven mind spheres and one aspect of the dharma sphere are with an object. Here, "with an object" means having an object, having a field of activity. Because it is not known what that one aspect of the dharma sphere is, in order to explain it, it is said, "whatever arises from the mind," meaning that the dharma sphere can be divided into two parts: the nature that arises from the mind and the nature that does not arise from the mind. Among these, feeling, perception, the aggregate of formations, and the fifty-one mental factors associated with the mind are called the nature that arises from the mind. All

Non-manifestation of form, as well as the four unconditioned dharmas, and also the formations that are not associated with mind in the aggregate of formations, these are the nature of non-mind-born. Among them, a portion of the dharma-realm that is of the nature of mind-born is called having an object. In reality, from the eye-consciousness realm to the mind-consciousness realm, there are six mind-realms, plus the mind-realm, there are seven mind-realms, and a portion of the dharma-realm that is of the nature of mind-born is said to be having an object. What is meant by how many are without an object? It means, among the eighteen realms, how many realms are without an object? The remaining ten, and a portion of the dharma-realm, it means that among the eighteen realms, the seven mind-realms, and a portion of the dharma-realm that is of the nature of mind-born are said to be having an object, then the remaining five faculties from the eye-realm to the body-realm, and the five objects from the form-realm to the touch-realm, totaling ten, and in the dharma-realm there are two natures, mind-born and non-mind-born, among which, whatever portion of the dharma-realm is not of the nature of mind-born, that is, all formations that are not associated with mind, as well as non-manifestation of form, and the four unconditioned dharmas, are called without an object. In reality, mind and mental factors are said to have an object, but for non-mind and non-mental factors, there is no object. What is meant by how many have conceptualization? Because it is in the context of explaining the eighteen realms, it means, among the eighteen realms, how many realms have conceptualization? The mind-realm and the mind-consciousness realm, and a portion of the dharma-realm, it means that among the eighteen realms, the mind-realm and the mind-consciousness realm, and the dharma-realm has two parts, namely the nature of mind-born and the nature of non-mind-born, among which a portion of the dharma-realm that is of the nature of mind-born is called having conceptualization. Why? The mind-realm and the mind-consciousness
