Just like complacency, if the collection of words cannot clearly explain the collection of names mentioned earlier, it will become complacent. It is said: If that is the case, it would be enough to say only "two," why is it necessary to say the word "that"? The answer is: If only the word "two" is said, and the word "that" is not said, then does the word "two" refer to the two names and words mentioned earlier, or does it refer to two other things different from this? It is impossible to determine which one it refers to. Therefore, in order to clearly distinguish the two names and words mentioned earlier with letters, the word "that" and the word "two" are said. In order to explain the second name of the letter, it is said that "expression is also those," meaning that those letters can also be called names. Why is the letter called expression? Therefore, it is said, "Because it resides in the name and word, it can correctly express the meaning." It means that relying on the letters of the alphabet, the name "Devadatta" is produced, and the name "Devadatta" expresses and shows the meaning of the self-nature called "Devadatta"; relying on the collection of letters, the word "conditioned is impermanent" is produced, and this word expresses and shows the special meaning that is the characteristic of conditioned impermanence, so the letter is called expression. Or, relying on letters, names and words are produced, and names and words can show the meaning without error, so letters are called expression. In order to explain the third name of the letter, it is said, "In order to prevent the letter from becoming another kind." It means that for letters such as A, the letter is also like this, just like the collection of names, eyes, hands, feet, etc., can be changed into other kinds by saying other names, for example, the eye can also be called "eye," and can also be called "eye," and the meaning of the eye can be understood through other kinds of "eye." However, apart from saying "A," there is no other kind of name for A, and in order to understand A, there is no other kind of A that understands A, because it does not become another kind, so it is a letter.

It should be known. This (time) is also applied to form and so on, and is merely nominally existent, not substantially existent. Why are names, sentences, and letters explained? It is for the sake of being skilled in the designation of the nature of phenomena, being skilled in the designation of the distinctions of phenomena, and being skilled in the designation of both. Therefore, these three are explained. In order to be skilled in the designation of the nature of phenomena, the collection of names is shown. In order to be skilled in the designation of the distinctions of phenomena, the collection of sentences is shown. In order to be skilled in the designation of both, the collection of letters is shown. In order to show the nature of ordinary beings. If someone asks, what is an ordinary being? This is actually asking, what is the nature and characteristic of an ordinary being? As an answer to this, it is said in the sutra, "not having obtained the dharmas of the noble ones," meaning that one who possesses the characteristic of not having obtained the dharmas of the noble ones is called an ordinary being. Among them, one who has abandoned sinful and unwholesome dharmas is called a noble one, and noble ones are divided into two types: those who are learning and those who are not learning. According to the Hinayana view, from entering the stream (Srotapanna) to obtaining the fruit of entering the stream, then to the entering of once-returner (Sakridagamin) and the obtaining of the fruit of once-returner, and the entering of non-returner (Anagamin) and the obtaining of the fruit of non-returner, up to the entering of Arhat, these seven are called those who are learning. Obtaining the fruit of Arhat is called not learning. According to the Mahayana view, from the stage of faith and practice onwards, Bodhisattvas up to the tenth bhumi are called those who are learning. The dharmas of these noble ones are of three types: the path of seeing, the path of cultivation, and the path of no more learning. Not having obtained these three paths is called being an ordinary being. Among them, according to the Hinayana view, when the fruit of stream-enterer is obtained, it is called the path of seeing. From obtaining the fruit of stream-enterer to entering the fruit of Arhat, these six stages are called the path of cultivation. When the fruit of Arhat is obtained, it is called the path of no more learning. According to the Mahayana view, at the first bhumi, it is called the path of seeing. From the second bhumi to the stage below the tenth bhumi
