Because it is the basis of the five senses and the object of the six consciousnesses from eye consciousness to mind consciousness, the form aggregate is the coarsest of all, so the form aggregate is explained first. Among the four formless aggregates, the feeling aggregate is coarser than the perception, formation, and consciousness aggregates, because worldly people clearly say, "I feel a headache," "I feel a foot ache," so the feeling aggregate is explained after that. The perception aggregate is coarser than the formation and consciousness aggregates, because it is easy to understand the grasping of characteristics of objects, such as "This is a woman," "This is a man," so the perception aggregate is explained after that. The formation aggregate is coarser than the consciousness aggregate, because it is easy to comprehend the nature of creating virtuous and non-virtuous karma, and when desire and hatred arise, it is easy to feel and know, "Desire has arisen," "Hatred has arisen," so the formation aggregate is explained after that. The consciousness aggregate is the subtlest of all, so it is mentioned last. Alternatively, the order of the five aggregates is arranged according to the order of the three realms, which are the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm. In the desire realm, consciousness depends on form, so the form aggregate is explained first. In the four dhyanas of the form realm, consciousness depends on the feeling of bliss of dhyana, so the feeling aggregate is shown after that. In the formless realm, in the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, and the sphere of nothingness, consciousness depends on perception, so the perception aggregate is shown after that. In the peak of existence, the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, consciousness depends on the formations that arise from the mind, so the formation aggregate is shown after that. The consciousness aggregate is mentioned last because it pervades all of these. To show the detailed distinctions of the form aggregate, the question is asked, "What is form?" The refutation was only mentioned in name above.

It is said that "at the time of ... it is the form aggregate." Here, why not ask "What is the form aggregate?" but instead ask "What is form?" The answer is: Apart from form, there is no separate aggregate, just like the aggregates of barley and rice. For example, when barley and rice are formed, the aggregate is also formed in the same way. Similarly, when form is formed, the aggregate is also formed in the same way, so there is no fault in asking "What is form?" Or, first explain the meaning of form, and then explain the meaning of aggregate later, so ask "What is form," not "What is the form aggregate." Slightly, "Whatever is form, all those" means that whatever is classified as a type of form, past form, future form, present form, good form, bad form, long form, short form, thin form, thick form, all those are included in the form of the four great elements and the form produced by the four great elements. After that, the two aspects of form are shown: the form of cause and the form of effect. Among them, the so-called "four great elements" shows the form of cause, because the cause of all forms is the four great elements. The so-called "form produced by the four great elements" shows the form of effect. Then, what is the meaning of "arising"? Because it arises and is born from various forms such as white and yellow, it is "arising." Because it pervades the eleven kinds of produced forms, it is "great." Or, because it is a dharma of arising and ceasing, it is "arising." Also, barley, water, fire, and wind are all produced by the karma of sentient beings, so they are "arising." The so-called "great" means that the element of earth is very large, because it appears to be visibly pervasive everywhere from the beginning. The element of water is also great, when the desire of sentient beings increases, the water kalpa occurs, destroying everything below the first dhyana. The element of fire is also great, when the hatred of sentient beings increases, the fire kalpa burns everything below the second dhyana. The element of wind is also great, when the ignorance of sentient beings increases, the wind kalpa destroys the third dhyana.
