It is the one whose function is to increase. Not being frugal with resources means recognizing things like resources that are not free from stinginess. What is deceit? It is showing an untrue meaning that deceives others. Because of attachment to gain and respect, it belongs to the category of desire and ignorance, therefore it shows an untrue meaning. It is the basis of wrong livelihood, and its function is to increase. What is deception? Holding the means to conceal one's own faults, called a crooked mind. One's own faults are one's own shortcomings. Because of attachment to gain and respect, wanting to conceal them, it belongs to the category of desire, hatred, and ignorance. One should recognize that when faults arise, one does not recognize them oneself but passes them on to others. It performs the function of cutting off the attainment of true instruction. Because one does not speak the truth as it is, one is not a suitable vessel for pure instruction. What is pride? It is extreme joy in being attached to one's own perfections, it is the mind's grasping. It has many aspects, such as lineage, power, form, subduing the mind, intelligence, enjoyment, and dominion. "One's own perfections" means any contaminated perfections. "Extreme joy in attachment" means the pleasure of joy, which is a distinction of afflicted joy, belonging to the category of desire. "Grasping" means eliminating all roots of virtue. It is the function of being the basis of all afflictions and near afflictions. What is harm? Harming sentient beings is said to belong to the category of anger, without love, without compassion. Harming sentient beings means doing things like beating with whips and fists, this is its function. What is shamelessness? It is not being ashamed of oneself because of wrongdoing. Not knowing shame is shamelessness, it is a dharma that is contrary to knowing shame. Knowing shame belongs to the category of desire, hatred, and ignorance. "Not being ashamed of oneself because of wrongdoing," "to oneself" means to oneself. Wrongdoing is evil. Not uniting with this means acting on evil.

It is a synonym for "of". It is the companion of all afflictions and near afflictions, and has such a function. What is shamelessness? It is not being concerned about others because of misdeeds. Shamelessness is not shame, because the opposite of shame is shamelessness. Not being concerned about others because of misdeeds means committing sins without regard for others or the public. It is the companion of all afflictions and near afflictions, and has such a function. What is lethargy? It is the mind not being suitable for activity, that is, dullness. Because it belongs to the part of ignorance, the mind is not suitable for activity. Lethargy is the companion of all afflictions and near afflictions, and has such a function. What is excitement? It is the mind not being pacified, that is, following the aspect of attractiveness. Because it belongs to the part of desire, the mind is not pacified. Following the aspect of attractiveness is in accordance with desire, because one remembers previous laughter and play, so one should know that the mind is not pacified, and it has the function of obstructing calm abiding. What is disbelief? It is not believing in karma and its results, the truths, and the Three Jewels, and the mind is not pleased, it is the opposite of faith. As mentioned above, not believing in karma and its results, the truths, and the Three Jewels, etc., that is, the mind is not pleased. Disbelief is unwillingness, it is the opposite of faith. It is the basis of laziness, and has such a function. If there is no beginning, there is no desire to combine. What is laziness? It is not rejoicing in virtue, it is the opposite of diligence. Regarding virtue, the mind is in accordance with faith and so on, and the mind does not rejoice in it, relying on the harm of sleep, fatigue, and indulgence, it belongs to the part of ignorance, it is the opposite of diligence. It has the function of obstructing the combination of virtue. What is carelessness? It is greed, hatred, ignorance, and laziness, by which one does not protect one's mind from afflictions, and does not cultivate virtue. Carelessness here is four dharmas, namely greed, hatred, ignorance, and laziness.

It is called. If overwhelmed by these, the mind will not be separated from desire from the afflictions. Abiding in these means not cultivating the root of virtue such as non-attachment. It is the action of relying on the increase of non-virtue and the decrease of virtue. What is forgetfulness? It is afflicted mindfulness, where virtue is not clear. Afflicted mindfulness means being associated with afflictions. Unclear virtue is synonymous with forgetting the correct teachings. It is the action of relying on distraction. What is distraction? It is when the mind is scattered among the five qualities of desire due to the influence of desire, hatred, and ignorance. That is, self-distraction, external distraction, internal distraction, sign-distraction, evil-gone-distraction, and attention-distraction. Self-distraction is the five aggregates of consciousness, because they cannot naturally abide equally within. External distraction is when the mind is scattered among the five qualities of desire when entering virtue, that is, when practicing listening and other virtues, one should know that the mind goes outward from that object to the five qualities of desire. Internal distraction is when sinking, excitement, and savoring arise when entering virtue, that is, when entering samadhi, sinking, excitement, and savoring arise. Because it falls into samadhi, it is a fault. What is sign-distraction? It is to first make others believe and then practice virtue, thinking that others will believe that I have qualities. Its sign is its cause, and one should know that entering virtue will completely degenerate from virtue. What is evil-gone-distraction? It is based on the evil-gone of the side of self-grasping, grasping of what is mine, and pride, when entering virtue, feelings arise, and one grasps these that arise as me and as mine, becoming a guide and acting as a sign. Mind
