Attention is the mind's entry. Entering is done by entering, that is, by what does the mind manifestly turn towards the object. That is what has the function of the mind grasping the object, mind grasping is the mind repeatedly directing itself to that object itself. That function is also spoken of in terms of the specific aspect of the mind's continuum of objects necessarily attending, but that is not for each moment of the mind. That is what functions only in each moment itself, not in other moments. Feeling is the nature of experiencing. That also transforms into three kinds by the distinction of manifesting its own entity, which makes the environment peaceful, makes it painful, and is separate from the aspects of those two, namely, pleasure, pain, and neither pain nor pleasure. Thinking thus, the fruition of the results of virtuous and non-virtuous actions is experienced here, therefore it is experiencing, in this, experiencing pleasure is the fruition of the results of virtuous actions. Experiencing pain is the fruition of the results of non-virtuous actions. Experiencing neither pain nor pleasure is the fruition of the results of both virtuous and non-virtuous actions, thus it is thought. Here, the alaya-consciousness itself is the fruition of good and non-good, and ultimately, the equanimity that is similar to and complete with it is the fruition of the results of good and non-good. Pleasure and pain are called fruition because they arise from the fruition of good and non-good actions. Here, experiencing pleasure is, Whatever arises, there arises the desire not to be separated, and when it ceases, there arises the desire to meet again. Experiencing pain is, whatever arises, there is the desire to be separated, and when it ceases, there is no desire to meet again. Experiencing neither pain nor pleasure is, whether it arises or ceases, neither arises. Perception is grasping the characteristics of an object. An object is an aim. A characteristic is its distinction, blue and yellow, etc., are the cause of establishing an object. Here, grasping is thinking that this is blue itself, and not yellow. Thought is the mind manifestly
