However, since they have parts of this shore, the other shore, and the middle, they do not truly exist like pillars and so on. If this is not admitted, then atoms will not have different directions such as east, south, west, and north. Therefore, like consciousness, atoms will also not exist as entities and will not exist in places. If so, then since external objects do not exist, consciousness itself will appear as objects, and it will be admitted to be similar to the consciousness in dreams. Feelings and so on are also like this; the past and the future do not generate the consciousness of their aspects, because they have ceased and have not yet arisen. The present also does not generate the present consciousness, because it does not exist at the time of arising. At the time of arising, consciousness is also its consciousness, so there is no function whatsoever, and therefore the consciousness of mind also arises without an object. Some say that if there is no self and dharma as objects, then analogy cannot be made, because analogy can only be established when there are three things; if any one of them is missing, it cannot be established, namely, the entity of the thing, another object similar to it, and something similar to both of them. For example, if the entity of the thing is fire, and something similar to it is a Brahmin boy, and the common attribute of both is yellowness or sharpness, then fire is analogized to the Brahmin boy, so they say. Regarding this, the analogy of fire to the Brahmin boy: if a genus or substance is analogized to proximity, then both of these analogies do not exist. For the time being, the common attribute of yellowness or sharpness is not the genus of fire. Without a common attribute, the genus cannot be analogized to the Brahmin boy, because it would be too extreme. Even if the genus does not possess these two attributes, but since sharpness and yellowness do not arise without a genus, will the genus be analogized to the Brahmin boy? Even without a genus, sharpness and yellowness can be seen in the Brahmin boy, so it is unreasonable to say that they do not arise without a genus. The situation of not arising without a genus does not exist in analogy, because like fire, the Brahmin boy also has a genus. Therefore, the Brahmin boy

It is not appropriate to establish lineage as proximity. It is not appropriate to establish substance as proximity, because there is no common dharma. The qualities of fire, whether sharpness or yellowness, are not present in a Brahmin boy. Why? Because that is different from that, the difference being related to one's own place. Without the qualities of fire, it is unreasonable to establish fire in a Brahmin boy. If it is said that it is close because it is similar to the qualities of fire, then also because of the similarity, the sharpness itself and the yellowness itself of the qualities of fire can be established as the sharpness itself and the yellowness itself of the qualities of the Brahmin boy's qualities. Because of the similarity of qualities, it is unreasonable to establish fire in a Brahmin boy, because there is no association with the similarity of qualities in fire. Therefore, it is also not appropriate to establish substance as proximity. There is also no object of meaning, because its own nature is beyond the scope of all knowledge and expression. Knowledge and expression only enter the chief in the manner of qualities, but do not touch its own nature. Otherwise, qualities would become meaningless. Since there is no other way to completely ascertain the own nature of the object of meaning except for knowledge and expression, therefore, since there is no knowledge and expression in the realm of the chief's own nature, it should be understood that there is no object of meaning. Similarly, between sounds, there is nothing unrelated to knowledge and expression. Thus, since there is no expression and what is to be expressed, there is no object of meaning. Moreover, all of these are mere designations, there is no reality. What is called designation is entering in a way that does not exist, and all sounds also enter with the nature of designation that does not exist in the chief. Therefore, there is no entity itself, and if there is no self and dharma in it, then it is unreasonable to establish proximity, it is unreasonable to say so. It is not known that the transformed consciousness has great differences, therefore, in order to show its differences very well, it is said that the transformation is also of three kinds. Among them, what self and dharma are established in is also different by the object of cause and the object of effect. Among them, what transforms into the cause is the ālaya-vijñāna, which has vipāka and the end of the cause.
