The sense organs are also the same. The mental sense organ is included by how many aggregates and elements? By the aggregate of consciousness and the seven elements of sentient beings. The dharma sense organ is included by how many aggregates and elements? By three aggregates and one part of one, and by one element. Similarly, one should examine how those other dharma aggregates that are taught, the elements that are relied upon, and the sense organs that are taught, and those that are not taught in that way, such as: things that exist, things that exist by imputation, things that exist conventionally, things that exist ultimately, things that are to be known, things that are to be cognized, things that are to be manifested, things that are form, things that are formless, things that are demonstrable, things that are undemonstrable, and so forth, are included by the aggregates, elements, and sense organs, as is appropriate. In that way, everything is taught as is appropriate. In what is called "one includes one," the aggregates are individually included by the elements and the sense organs, and they are connected in a way that is mutually compatible. Similarly, the elements are also included by the sense organs and the aggregates, and the sense organs are also included by the aggregates and the elements, and this should be understood extensively. What is included ultimately is the suchness of the aggregates, elements, and sense organs. Furthermore, the characteristic of including is to be viewed in six ways, in accordance with what is included by worldly conventions. What are these? Including by the basis of location: for example, people are included by Jambudvipa (the continent of Jambu). Wild animals are included by the wilderness. Just as this is said in the world, so here too, it should be understood that the consciousness of the eye, and so forth, is included by the eye, and so forth. Including by binding: for example, just as a load of wood, and so forth, is bound by a rope, and so forth, so the body binds the sense faculties of the eye, and so forth. Including by common purpose: for example, just as people who are of one mind, whose needs are all in common, show each other, so those who arise in dependence on one object, possessing similar qualities, are also included by one another. Including by close association: for example, a master to a servant, and so forth, says, "My"

Just as something is completely grasped, the all-encompassing consciousness also grasps the body. The non-scattering holding is like a vase holding water; similarly, samadhi holds the mind and mental factors that are different from it. The manifestly gathering holding is like the ocean gathering rivers; similarly, the aggregate of form gathers the eye and so on. Here, from the perspective of manifestly gathering holding, one should understand that there are eleven ways of gathering. Having gathered in this way, what benefit does the wise person obtain? They obtain the benefit of manifestly gathering the object. The more manifestly the object is gathered, the more the roots of virtue increase. What is joining? That should be viewed in six ways: joining without parts, joining by mixing, joining by encountering, joining by arising together, joining by accomplishing actions, and joining by understanding in agreement. What is joining without parts? On the side of the atom, all things with sides are without difference. Form and so on that belong to one atom should be understood as being without difference due to being without parts and having the same direction. What is joining by mixing? All things with sides above the atom are mixed together. For example, in muddy water, the atoms of water and earth mix with each other. What is joining by encountering? The assembled things with sides themselves encounter each other. For example, a lump of clay on a wall and another lump of clay encounter each other. What is joining by arising together? Which aggregates, elements, and sense bases abide by arising together? Those that have the same birth, abiding, and cessation. On a single body, the momentary aggregates and so on. What is joining by accomplishing actions? For example, two monks engage in a mutual joining for any need. Those who engage in one need are mutually related. What is joining by understanding in agreement? The mind and mental phenomena understand one object in agreement. That joining by understanding in agreement is also the object of another, not the object of oneself.

Thus, mind is not the same as another mind, and feeling is also not the same as another feeling, and so on. There are two that are the same, but not two that are different. For example, desire and hatred, virtue and non-virtue, and so on. There are two times that are the same, but not two times that are different. For example, the present and the future, the past and the thus. There are realms and grounds that are the same, but not realms and grounds that are different. For example, the desire realm and the form realm, the first dhyana and the second dhyana, and so on. The all-pervasive conjunction of similar distinctions is as follows: feeling, recognition, thought, touch, attention, and consciousness. These six, feeling and so on, are all-pervasive. This is because in all circumstances, if any one of them is missing, it cannot exist. Furthermore, the all-pervasive conjunction of afflictions is mind and the four afflictions. Sometimes the conjunction is, for example, virtuous things such as faith in the mind, and afflictions such as desire, and increasing afflictions. The conjunction that changes from state is whatever is accompanied by the conjunction of happiness. Suffering, and neither suffering nor happiness, are also the same. The uninterrupted conjunction is in the state of being with body and mind. The interrupted conjunction is in the state of being interrupted by the samadhi without mind. The conjunction that looks outward is mostly from the mind that is completely in accordance with the desire realm, and the phenomena that arise from the mind. The conjunction that looks inward is some of the minds and mental phenomena of the grounds of meditative stabilization. The familiar conjunction is the minds and mental phenomena of ordinary beings, and also some of those who are learners and non-learners. Among them, learners and non-learners refer to worldly virtues, non-virtues, and unspecified things, as appropriate. The unfamiliar conjunction is the supramundane phenomena.
