Distinguishing thoroughly by the characteristic of imputation, distinguishing thoroughly by the characteristic of discrimination, and distinguishing thoroughly by the characteristic of suchness. Among these, what is the thorough distinction by the characteristic of imputation? Whatever is thoroughly imputed as self, or sentient being, or life, or producer, or nourisher, or person, or born of power, or son of power, in the aggregates, elements, and sense-bases. Or, relying on the aggregates and so forth, whatever is thoroughly conceived as the nature of self and so forth, even though it does not exist. What is the thorough distinction by the characteristic of discrimination? It is the aggregates, elements, and sense-bases themselves. The nature of other-powered is the aggregates and so forth themselves, in which the false discriminations of self and so forth arise. What is the thorough distinction by the characteristic of suchness? It is the aggregates, elements, and sense-bases themselves, in which there is no self, no sentient being, no life, no producer, no nourisher, no person, no born of power, no son of power, and the absence of self is existence itself. The nature of the thoroughly established is that things and non-things, the characteristic of non-association, and the absence of self and so forth in the aggregates and so forth, and the absence of self and so forth is due to the characteristic of existence itself. Furthermore, there are four kinds of thorough distinction: thorough distinction by characteristic, thorough distinction by type, thorough distinction by body, and thorough distinction by continuity. What is the thorough distinction by characteristic? The aggregates, elements, and sense-bases are thoroughly distinguished by their own characteristics. One should act according to the nature of the dharmas, such as form and feeling. What is the thorough distinction by type? It is by the aggregates, elements, and sense-bases themselves that there are substantially existent and nominally existent, conventionally existent and ultimately existent, with form and without form, visible and invisible, and so forth, as explained. Thorough distinction by type is done according to differences. What is the thorough distinction by body? As many bodies as there are of sentient beings, so many are the aggregates, elements, and sense-bases. Each

That is the body, which is treated differently from the aggregates, etc. What is the detailed distinction by continuity? It is the arising of each moment of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases. The detailed distinction by continuity is: from one body, the different moments of the aggregates, etc., are treated differently. What does one who is skilled in distinguishing by nature fully understand? One fully understands the direct perception of self. What does one who is skilled in distinguishing by aspect fully understand? One fully understands the perception of a group. What does one who is skilled in distinguishing by body fully understand? One fully understands the perception of not wasting what has not been done, what has been combined, and what has been done. What does one who is skilled in distinguishing by continuity fully understand? One fully understands the perception of stability. Furthermore, the detailed distinctions of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases themselves are of six types: distinguishing by looking outward, distinguishing by looking inward, distinguishing by a long period of time, distinguishing by complete cessation of time, distinguishing by that time, and distinguishing by complete manifestation. What is distinguishing by looking outward? It is distinguishing by mostly practicing in the desire realm. Mostly holding is because, except for hearing and thinking arising from the cause of the cause of similar dharmas, it is to prevent (others). What is distinguishing by looking inward? It is all the places of meditative stabilization. What is distinguishing by a long period of time? It is the individual ordinary beings. What is distinguishing by complete cessation of time? It excludes the final aggregates, elements, and sense bases of those who are learning and those who are not learning. What is distinguishing by that time? It is the final aggregates, elements, and sense bases of those who are not learning. What is distinguishing by complete manifestation? It is the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who have attained the Paramitas, who completely manifest the aggregates, elements, and sense bases. What is the collection? That should be observed from eleven aspects, namely: collecting by nature, collecting by element, collecting by type, collecting by state, collecting by companion, collecting by direction.
