In order to gather subtle things. It is said that knowable things are of two kinds: subtle and coarse. The subtle is, from the perspective of the general characteristic, the selflessness of phenomena, and from the perspective of its own characteristic, it is difficult to know, which is the aspect of the alaya consciousness. The coarse is, from the perspective of the general characteristic, the selflessness of the person, and from the perspective of its own characteristic, it is form and so on. For them, the Hearers, having become accustomed to the coarse general and specific characteristics through hearing and thinking, are able to directly realize them in sequence through the noble path and the knowledge gained after it. Therefore, only that is taught to them. Why? Because knowledge is secondary, and nirvana is primary. This shows that merely knowing all knowable things does not lead to realization. Therefore, they do not enter into knowing all knowable things because their minds are unclear, but only because they are able to know the coarse, and their liberation is accomplished by that alone. Therefore, the meaning is shown by "Therefore, they are," and so on. Bodhisattvas, and so on, because if it is not there, it is not there, and the omniscient wisdom is primary. Because they have the ability and also strive for it, they belong to the knowing of all knowable things. Therefore, having directly realized the coarse and subtle general characteristics through the noble path, and having directly realized the coarse and subtle specific characteristics through the wisdom gained after it, they wander completely in samsara without having attained the main purpose. Therefore, for that reason, that is taught to them, and so on, is said. In this way, whatever is made an object by hearing and thinking alone is later directly realized. Having made it the domain of what is uncommon to the Hearer's vehicle, again, what is special is spoken of, which is the view of the Sarvastivadins. "Universally delighting in the alaya consciousness," and so on, these four words are merely synonyms. Either to enable those with dull faculties to understand, or to enable some of those to be tamed to understand the appearance of meaning through some synonyms, or to each of those to be tamed

I am for generating the seed of pure knowledge! Or, to say that there is universal joy in the ālaya is the teaching! The remainder is its explanation by the difference of time! According to the order, by the difference of the past, present, and future places! Or, by the distinction of the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm, the three words are explained in order! Or, starting from the beings of the hell realm, the beings of the asura realm, and the beings of the god realm, the three words are explained in order! In order, causing to be thrown and perfected, in order to manifest accomplishment by those included in the preta and god realms, therefore the asura realm is established separately! Or, taking into account the birthplaces of womb-born, egg-born, moisture-born, and miraculously born, the four words are in order! Or, starting from practicing in the desire realm, as well as attachment to form, attachment to the formless, and attachment to fear! Or, starting from the four inversions! The four words, such as "wanting to hear," are in order, taking into account relying on a noble person, as well as the wisdom arising from hearing, thinking, and meditating! Among them, relying on a noble person is the combination of the three! Or, it is the distinction of the wisdom arising from hearing! Or, it is the wisdom obtained from birth at the time of serving and respecting! The so-called "dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma," in which Dharma is seeing the truth! The Dharma that is in accordance is the path of its combination! Another way is that Dharma is the path of no learning! The Dharma that is in accordance is the path of learning! Another way is that Dharma is ultimate nirvana! The Dharma that is in accordance is all the uncontaminated paths! The reason for mentioning many words, such as "from the scriptures," is because it arises from many scriptures! The so-called "root consciousness" is to indicate another consciousness, namely the mind consciousness, and it should be understood as such! That is merely universal discrimination, because the other entity of mind consciousness is not allowed, just like the other entity of eye consciousness!
