He does not abandon it. Regarding what is called "devotion" to those things that are disguised as the true Dharma, devotion is the arising of intention and desire. Showing is explaining. Establishing is placing. The term "etc." means to increase. The term "completely holding" is for the sake of arising. The term "pure intention" is for the sake of entering the (Bodhisattva) ground. The term "to satisfy with this" means to generate joy from the depths of the heart. Joy is abiding through the means of union. The term "having become one who sees virtue" means that, like the Dharma of defeat, whoever has the attitude of thinking "these are virtues" is one who sees virtue. For example, having committed the Dharma of defeat, a monk will abandon the Pratimoksha vows; similarly, even if the Bodhisattva vows have been properly taken, they will not be abandoned. Even if a Bodhisattva has completely abandoned the vows that have been properly taken, he still has the opportunity to receive the Bodhisattva vows in this life, because it is only because of these two differences that it is said to be "like the place of defeat." If one wants it to be the same in all respects, then one should say "the Dharma of defeat." Furthermore, in order to show the three differences from other Dharmas of defeat, it is said, "Even if one has already transmigrated," and so on. The term "holy object of offering" also includes the offering of practice. As it is said, from the basis of what is completely spoken, having violated the discipline of the Bodhisattva, a transgression of wrongdoing has occurred, and the remainder should be spoken in the same way as a monk confesses a wrongdoing, meaning that a transgression of wrongdoing has occurred, and I, in the presence of the Sangha, confess the fault as a fault, repent, proclaim, and do not conceal it. If I confess, repent, and proclaim, I will be happy, but if I do not confess, repent, or proclaim, it will not be so. That is how it should be said. Do you see those faults? He should also say that he sees them. Will you guard them in the future? He should say that he will guard them well, and say that two or three times. The faults of a Bodhisattva are minor.

It should be understood as small, medium, and large. Thus, as it is said, arising from the accumulation of the basis, it should be understood that faults transform into small, medium, and large in five ways. What are the five? They are nature, action, intention, basis, and augmentation. Among these, pārājika is a grave offense. Saṃghāvaśeṣa is a medium offense. Those other than these are minor offenses. In another classification, pārājika and saṃghāvaśeṣa are grave. That which should be confessed individually is medium. Misdeeds should be understood as light. Thus, it should be understood that nature transforms into small, medium, and large. Among these, that which is done out of ignorance and that which is done out of carelessness are minor offenses. That which is done out of disrespect is a medium offense. That which is done with great affliction should be understood as a grave offense. Thus, it should be understood that from action, it transforms into small, medium, and large. Among these, that which is done by a small one who is completely bound by desire, hatred, and delusion should be understood as a small offense. That which is done by a medium one is a medium offense. That which is done by a large one should be understood as a grave offense. Thus, it should be understood that from intention, small, medium, and large arise. Even if done with the same intention on a basis with the same nature, it should be understood that there are also cases where it transforms into small, medium, and large. For example, with the same intention completely bound by hatred and delusion, knowingly killing or causing to kill a sentient being who has taken rebirth as an animal is a falling offense. Killing or causing to kill a human or one who has taken human form, if not one's parents, then it transforms into pārājika, but it does not transform into an offense with no interval. Killing or causing to kill one's parents completely bound by hatred and delusion, then it also transforms into pārājika, and it should be understood that it also transforms into the fault of an offense with no interval. Thus, it should be understood that from the basis, faults transform into small, medium, and large. Among these, increase is like this: some people, even if they commit one offense to two, three, or even five, do not properly confess.
