Yes. Furthermore, the wise among the wise are certainly wise because they are good at distinguishing. As for its distinction, it should be appropriately combined as before. Among them, liberation, abandonment, non-possession, purity, exhaustion, and freedom from attachment are its synonyms. Its nature is to completely destroy the evil realms and abandon afflictions. Its meaning is that it is liberated from various bonds such as desire, so it is liberation. Also, the Blessed One spoke for the sake of the two kinds of taming, so it is liberation. The distinction is that it is liberated from afflictions in time and combination, immovability, what is to be abandoned by seeing, what is to be abandoned by meditation, in the desire realm, in the form realm, and in the formless realm. Like this, similar to this, like the previous ones, it should be known as distinction. Among them, mindfulness, non-forgetfulness of mind, and present mindfulness are its synonyms. Its nature is mental phenomena. Its meaning is that it is mindfulness because of remembering the Dharma. Also, how familiar things are, through attention, making them present in mindfulness, so it is mindfulness. The distinction of mindfulness is that remembering the Buddha, remembering the Dharma, remembering the Sangha, etc., the six remembrances, should be known as these. Similarly, it should also be known to distinguish through the difference of mindfulness of dwelling nearby. In detail, it should be appropriately combined as before. If someone asks, what is the meaning of "the benefit of learning"? The answer is: This is a term that fully shows that the learning of higher discipline is regarded as a virtue and abides. If someone asks, what is the meaning of "supreme wisdom"? The answer is: This is a term that fully shows that through all other faculties, the faculty of wisdom itself is the most supreme. If someone asks, what is the meaning of "the essence of liberation"? The answer is: This is a term that fully shows the abandonment of afflictions to be abandoned by seeing and meditation. If someone asks, what is the meaning of "the root of mindfulness"?

Then, this is a euphemism that fully shows without knowing satisfaction with smallness and badness. When the Blessed One taught the three trainings in order in other sutras, why is it that here the benefit of the training of higher mind is not mentioned, but higher wisdom is taught after higher discipline? Because this teaching, which includes wisdom arising from hearing and so on, itself fully reveals meditation in order from non-regret and so on, therefore it also fully reveals the training of higher mind. The Blessed One also said that among these five faculties, this is what gathers, this is what assembles, just like the faculty of wisdom. A monk who possesses the faculty of wisdom meditates up to the faculty of meditation, and in that way, it is as if the faculty of wisdom also possesses up to the faculty of meditation. Just as it was said, therefore, in that sutra, the Blessed One fully revealed what is the cause that leads to meditation and what is the cause that leads to the abandonment of afflictions. Higher mind is taught together with only the training of higher wisdom. When the practice of the three trainings becomes complete, why is the practice of the training of higher mind not taught? Here too, it should be viewed in the same way as before. Why is it said to abide in the benefit of training, but not to abide in the benefit of wisdom, nor to abide in the benefit of liberation? Because by mentioning the inferior benefit, those who are to be tamed will also be made to hold the superior benefit, and for the sake of gathering the ten benefits of the Sangha, and for the sake of making the Sangha good, etc., the teaching of entering into those benefits is clearly and fully shown. When liberation is the most supreme Dharma of all, why is it said to abide in superior wisdom, but not to abide in superior liberation? Because for the inferior

Furthermore, the mention of the excellent is to enable the disciples to also uphold the abundant Dharma, and also to fully reveal the uncommon distinction of liberation. What is the distinction here? It is that the excellent wisdom is impermanent, therefore liberation is permanent, it is the essence of nature. So what is it to abide in the benefit of learning? It is the definite discipline of truly seeing the ten benefits in how to establish the basis of learning, as well as the discipline of the teachings, as well as constant practice, as well as constant entry, this is to abide in the benefit of learning. So what is the meaning of the words 'for the sake of gathering the Sangha' and so on? 'For the sake of gathering the Sangha' is a summary statement. 'For the sake of treating the Sangha well' is to abandon the extreme of diligently following after the merit of desire. 'For the sake of making the Sangha dwell in peace' is to abandon the extreme of diligently following after one's own fatigue. 'For the sake of making the non-believers believe' is to make those who have not entered enter. 'For the sake of making the believers believe even more' is to make those who have entered fully mature. 'For the sake of subduing the disrespectful' is to be strict with those who break the precepts. 'For the sake of making the conscientious dwell in peace' is to make those who have discipline free from regret. 'For the sake of restraining the outflows of this life' is to be in accordance with suppressing the entanglement of afflictions. 'For the sake of destroying the outflows of future lives' is to clarify the aspiration to abide in pure conduct, and to be in accordance with abandoning the habitual tendencies of afflictions. 'My pure conduct benefits many beings, is vast, is truly revealed among gods and humans, and will last for a long time' is to make the lineage of the teachings uninterrupted. These ten benefits, in short, are benefits.
