Discrimination should be made. Regarding the dharmas associated with afflictions, their detailed classification should also be distinguished through five ways, and should also be observed through five ways. What are these five ways? Namely: place, basis, nature, companion, and instigation. Among them, the five aggregates of clinging are called the place of dharmas associated with afflictions. Being particularly attached to tasting flavors and being completely infatuated with tasting flavors, this is the basis of afflictions. Among them, the nature of impermanence, the nature of suffering, and the nature of change, this is the nature of afflictions. For afflictions, ignorance and delusion are their companions. Relying on these, the arising of five kinds of black karma is instigation. Among them, the arising of fighting, exposing faults, arguing, competing, or any other actions due to particular attachment to desires and views, this is the first kind of black karma. Any complete entanglement of afflictions, not abandoning and mostly remaining in that state, this is the second kind of black karma. For example, ascetics, or other renunciates and Brahmins who do not eat food, enter fire, offer sacrifices on cliffs, etc., the deceptive paths of these beliefs are the third kind of black karma. Misconduct through body, speech, and mind is the fourth kind of black karma. And, wanting to exist again, this is the fifth kind of black karma. Among them, the first kind of black karma should be observed as being unable to touch happiness due to harboring resentment and a mind of committing evil. The second kind of black karma should be observed as being unable to touch happiness oneself due to the complete torment of afflictions. The third kind of black karma should be observed as being unable to touch happiness due to accepting meaningless suffering and complete exhaustion. The fourth kind of black karma should be observed as being unable to touch happiness due to being born in the lower realms. The fifth kind of black karma should be observed as being unable to touch happiness due to being inseparable from the suffering of birth, aging, death, etc. Among them, the five aggregates of clinging that have become the place, they are with basis and

Because of possessing afflictions along with their companions, assistants, and arising, they are called dharmas with afflictions. The distinction of non-afflictive dharmas is also established only through the five ways that are the opposite of this. Among them, the five aggregates that are not closely grasped are the place, because there the afflictions with their root, companion, and arising are not found. Therefore, they are called non-afflictive dharmas. The distinction of dharmas with defilements is also established only through five ways. What are the five? They are the five ways of place and root, etc., as before. Among them, the place is the five aggregates of close grasping themselves. The root refers to the existence of the root dharma of experiencing taste, which is in accordance with the place of pleasure and joy. The nature is the arising of pleasure and joy gathered by experiencing taste, relying on that. The companion is whatever is universally attached to and particularly fixated on that taste. The arising is the five aspects of the dark side, which should be understood as before. The five aggregates of close grasping that have become the place are called those with defilements because they possess the defilements from the root and place up to the arising. The distinction of dharmas without defilements should also be understood as being established only through the five ways that are the opposite of this, that is, the non-afflictions as shown before, which should be combined in an appropriate way. The distinction of dharmas that rely on attachment should also be observed as being established only through five ways. What are the five? They are the place and root, etc., as before. Among them, the place refers to the five aggregates of close grasping that possess desire. The root refers to the five qualities of desire that are in accordance with the place of desire's attachment. The nature of attachment is the desire's attachment that arises from that condition and object. The companion is the universal thought of desire with improper attention and wrong aspiration. Being associated with this, it is called the attachment of universal thought. The arising is the five aspects of the dark side.
