It should be understood that it is not the substance of exhausting all things. Because of this, I (Pudgala) do not exist, and even if there are only aggregates, it is possible to have the nature of being completely defiled and completely purified. For example, if the internal and external sources arise and exist, then in this life, the feeling arising from contact, which is produced by the accumulation of ignorance, will be beneficial and harmful to the body. Because of this reason, there will be craving for meeting and separation, and the afflictions and near afflictions related to this will arise. For this purpose, the creation of virtuous and non-virtuous actions will also appear, and if afflictions and actions are accomplished in this way, then in the next life, the laws of suffering such as birth and aging will also arise. Therefore, for the time being, the aggregates are impermanent and selfless, but they will still be completely defiled. Because it arises from the cause of the sound of others, and because it arises from the cause of one's own proper attention, ignorance ceases and wisdom arises. Without delusion, all feelings are separately understood from suffering, and the craving for those feelings and the afflictions related to them will also be abandoned. Because of this basis, the virtuous and non-virtuous actions that increase arising will also not be created. Therefore, because of abandoning actions and afflictions, arising with suffering such as birth will also not occur. Therefore, if there is selflessness and only aggregates exist, then it is possible to have the nature of being completely defiled and completely purified. Among them, the designation as sentient beings is like this: for example, sentient beings without feet, two-legged, four-legged, many-legged, sentient beings with form, sentient beings without form, sentient beings with perception, sentient beings without perception, and sentient beings born in places that are neither with perception nor without perception. Among them, all of these nine types of designation as sentient beings, in short, should be understood as the category of three causes: the differentiation of going, returning, and body movement is the classification from footless to many-footed.

These aspects should also be known. By distinguishing the body, one should know the establishment of sentient beings with form and without form. By distinguishing the mind, one should know the establishment of sentient beings with perception, without perception, and those born in the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. There is a so-called naked ascetic who, having truly observed that the births of those beings considered to possess the inner dharma of life are consistent, says, "Trees also have life." To this, it should be said: Is the birth of trees derived from the cause of life, or do you think it is derived from another cause of birth? If it is derived from the cause of life, then, since their life will not change, it will never not be born, which is unreasonable. If it is derived from another cause of birth, then, there is no life, but it is born from its own cause, which is unreasonable. To this, it should also be said: Do you consider the non-birth of inanimate objects to be with cause, or do you think it is without cause? If it is considered to be with cause, then the stated cause cannot be determined, which is unreasonable. If it is considered to be without cause, then to say it is without cause is unreasonable. To this, it should also be said: Are trees and life completely identical? Or do you think they are not identical? If they are completely identical, then trees would sink into the ground and also grow on the ground, their own bodies would not move, even if they spoke they would not speak, and it would not be seen that they engage in good and bad deeds, and even if branches and twigs were cut off, they would grow elsewhere, which is unreasonable. If they are not identical, then if they are identical, there is life, and if they are not identical, there is no life, which is unreasonable. Therefore, the cause of birth is either other than that or not, and the statement of the cause of non-birth for inanimate objects exists.
