Therefore, those are called the reversed limits of karma. Because one's own body, that is, those five limbs, brings about wealth, therefore it is called my wealth. What is the wealth of others? It is like this: the Buddhas appear, teach the sacred Dharma, the taught Dharma abides, those who abide in the Dharma follow it, and they are compassionate and loving for the sake of others. Among these, what is meant by the appearance of the Buddhas? It is like this: here, someone generates thoughts of goodness and benefit for all sentient beings, endures many thousands of hardships, and with the great accumulation of merit and wisdom, after three countless eons, obtains the final subsequent body, sits at the heart of enlightenment, abandons the five obscurations, and their mind is well established in the four close placements of mindfulness. Having cultivated the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, they manifestly and completely awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. This is called the appearance of the Buddhas. In all times, past, future, and present, all the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, appear in just that way. What is meant by teaching the sacred Dharma? The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, themselves, and their disciples, the Shravakas, appear in the world, and out of compassion for the world, beginning with the four noble truths of suffering, origin, cessation, and path, they teach the Dharma, such as the Sutra Pitaka, the Songs, the Prophecies, the Verses, the Self-spoken, the Stories of Origin, the Parables, the Such-like Events, the Birth Stories, the Extensive Teachings, the Wonderful Dharma Teachings, and the Instructions. This is called teaching the sacred Dharma. This Dharma is sacred because it has been examined, taught, or praised by the Buddhas and the Shravakas of the Buddhas; therefore, it is the sacred Dharma, and whoever explains it is called the teacher of the sacred Dharma. What is meant by the taught Dharma abiding? The Buddhas, the Bhagavat,

Or fields, from turning the wheel of Dharma and teaching the sacred Dharma, to the time when the Buddha Bhagavan completely passes into Nirvana, the practice does not diminish, and the sacred Dharma does not disappear. This is called the abiding of the sacred Dharma. It should be understood that this abiding is also in the manner of actually seeing the true Dharma. What is the practice of following the abiding Dharma? It is to know who has realized the sacred Dharma, and to know that they have the opportunity and ability to enable sentient beings to actually see the sacred Dharma. They teach and instruct completely in accordance with what they have realized. This is the practice of following the abiding Dharma, and it is called the practice of following various abiding Dharmas. What is following with love for the sake of others? Others refer to donors and patrons who provide the necessities of life as conditions, such as Dharma robes, food, bedding, cushions, medicine, and any other supplies. Following with love for them is called following with love for the sake of others. What is aspiration for virtuous Dharma? For example, here someone hears the Dharma from the Tathagata or the Tathagata's Shravakas, and thereby obtains faith. After hearing this, they think: living at home is a place of harm and affliction, while renunciation provides a clear opportunity. Therefore, I should abandon all the retinues of women, wealth, grain, and possessions, and completely renounce in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, becoming homeless, and after renouncing, I should also practice diligently. Learning in this way is the arising of aspiration for virtuous Dharmas, and this is called aspiration for virtuous Dharma. What is renunciation? It is being driven by the aspiration for virtuous Dharma, receiving full ordination through request and the four karmas, and truly upholding the precepts of a Bhikshu. This is renunciation. What is the discipline of precepts? It is that one who has renounced in that way abides in the precepts, and

Bound by the discipline of liberation, with perfect rituals, perfect conduct, and regarding even the slightest transgression as fearful, properly taking up the precepts and diligently studying them, this is called the discipline of morality. What is the discipline of the senses? Relying on that very discipline of morality, constantly guarding mindfulness, constantly striving in mindfulness, guarding the mind with mindfulness, abiding in a state of equanimity, thereby, when seeing forms with the eye, neither grasping at characteristics nor grasping at signs, and striving to prevent the outflow of sinful, unwholesome dharmas that arise from the mind, also guarding the eye faculty, and practicing discipline with the eye faculty; likewise, when hearing sounds with the ear, smelling scents with the nose, tasting flavors with the tongue, touching tangibles with the body, and knowing dharmas with the mind, neither grasping at characteristics nor grasping at signs, and striving to prevent the outflow of sinful, unwholesome dharmas that arise from the mind, also guarding the mind faculty, and practicing discipline with the mind faculty, this is called the discipline of the senses. What is knowing the right amount of food? Thus, one who has guarded the senses eats after examining them separately, not for the sake of amusement, not for the sake of pride, not for the sake of adornment, not for the sake of embellishment, but for the sake of: this body may endure, may live, may eliminate hunger, may benefit the holy life, may abandon old suffering, may not generate new suffering, I may live, and have strength and happiness, be without transgression, and also abide in comfort, thus thinking, this is called knowing the right amount of food. What is diligently practicing without sleeping in the upper and lower parts of the night? Thus, one who has come to know the right amount of food, during the day, while walking and sitting, in order not to let the mind be defiled by obstructing dharmas,
