Therefore, they view it in that way and speak in that manner. The views of the heretics also hold that such views are found when there are no Buddhas and no virtuous spiritual friends who teach the sacred Dharma, and this is called a wrong path. What is an obscuration? It is said: For example, people born in the central regions flourish as before, and even if Buddhas appear in the world and virtuous spiritual friends who teach the sacred Dharma are found, they are foolish, deaf, mute, and communicate with gestures, unable to understand all the meanings of well-spoken and poorly spoken teachings, engage in the five heinous crimes, and have long-lasting afflictions; this is called an obscuration. By what causes do beings with the nature of complete Nirvana attain complete Nirvana? These four causes are the causes of complete Nirvana. When Buddhas appear, the sacred Dharma is heard, and instructions that accord with it are found, and when these causes are present, the roots of virtue are fully ripened and gradually lead to complete Nirvana. Those beings who do not have the nature of complete Nirvana abide in the assembly of the determined. Whether they encounter favorable conditions or not, in all circumstances, they have no opportunity for complete Nirvana. Now, for those beings who have the nature of complete Nirvana, what conditions, if incomplete, missing, or nearly missing, become obstacles to not attaining complete Nirvana? It is said: There are two obstacles. What are the two? They are the primary and the secondary. What is the primary obstacle? It is said: For example, the sound of others influenced by the sacred Dharma, and internal proper attention. What is the secondary obstacle? It is said: There are many secondary obstacles, such as one's own wealth and the wealth of others, desire for virtuous Dharma, renunciation, purity of discipline, guarding the senses, knowing the measure of food, and not sleeping in the upper and lower parts of the night, diligently engaging in yoga, and mindfully

That is the practice. To dwell in solitude, to purify all obscurations, and to abide correctly in samadhi. What are my endowments then? To have become a human, to have been born in the central lands, to have complete faculties, to have faith in the Dharma, and to not have transgressed the limits of karma. What is it to have become a human? For example, here someone is born with the same fortune as other humans, possessing male faculties, or born as a woman; this is called having become a human. What is it to have been born in the central lands? For example, here someone, as before, up to the noble beings, is born among the people of the central lands where one can go; this is called having been born in the central lands. What is it to have complete faculties? For example, here someone is not foolish, not deaf or mute, and has grown up, with limbs and members complete, without missing an ear, etc., without incomplete limbs and members, who has the capacity to truly accomplish virtuous deeds; this is called having complete faculties. What is it to have faith in the Dharma? For example, here someone has faith in the Dharma spoken by the Tathagata,
