From where does one not generate mental actions, and turns away, not following, and generates mental actions on the white side, and does not turn away, until following. Thus, it is like this: one individually observes mental actions in the past, future, and present times, and completely tames them. Why is that? Because in the past, future, and present times, whatever renunciates or brahmins examine bodily actions, verbal actions, and mental actions separately, and completely tame them in their minds, and having completely tamed them, abide in them many times, all of them also examine and completely tame them separately. The Blessed One also began with the venerable disciple: If you remember the Buddha's teachings, then bodily actions, likewise verbal actions, and mental actions, too, again and again, examine them separately, disciple! If you study this, then only goodness without sin, that is the work of a renunciate, study this, disciple! It is like what was said. So, like this, will my bodily actions, verbal actions, and mental actions become harmful? To distinguish in detail as before, that is separate observation. Turning away from some aspects and creating separately, and following some aspects and rejoicing and greatly rejoicing, with that joy, following and studying day and night, and abiding many times, that is called complete practice. Therefore, know that in this way, the discipline of completely pure morality has ten benefits. What are the ten? Here, whatever individuals possess morality, when they separately observe their own completely pure morality, they will obtain no regret. If there is no regret, there will be great joy. If the mind is greatly joyful, joy will arise. If the mind is joyful, the body will become very tamed. If the body is very tamed, one will experience bliss. A mind that has become blissful will abide in equanimity. If the mind abides in equanimity, it can truly

Is completely known. Is completely seen as it is. Is completely known as it is. If one completely sees as it is, one will become disgusted. If one is disgusted, one will be separated from desire. If one is separated from desire, one will be liberated. For liberation, the wisdom and vision of the thought 'I am liberated' arise, and one will completely pass into the realm of nirvana where there are no remaining aggregates. A person who possesses morality, through the power of completely pure morality, obtains the stages of liberation without regret. This is the first benefit of morality. Furthermore, a person who possesses morality, when the time of death arrives, thinks: 'Alas, my body, speech, and mind have acted well. Alas, my body, speech, and mind have not acted wrongly.' Therefore, even after I die, I will go to the places where I have done merit, done good deeds, and taken refuge from fear and dread. Thinking that he will go to a good rebirth, he will also obtain the second freedom from regret. A death without regret for a person is good, passing away is also good, and the future life is also good. This is the second benefit of morality. Furthermore, for a person who possesses morality, the sound of praise for virtue, pleasant and renowned, will spread in all directions and corners. This is the third benefit of morality. Furthermore, a person who possesses morality will sleep peacefully and wake up peacefully with a body and mind completely free from suffering. This is the fourth benefit of morality. Furthermore, a person who possesses the benefits of morality, even when asleep, will be protected by the gods. This is the fifth benefit of morality. Furthermore, a person who possesses morality has no tendencies towards evil, and no fear, and his mind is always filled with joy.

Moreover, there is none. This is the sixth benefit of discipline. Furthermore, if a person is endowed with discipline, even if murderers, rebels, and enemies find an opportunity, they will think, "Alas, this person is endowed with discipline," and they will protect him, becoming close friends and remaining in an ordinary state. This is the seventh benefit of discipline. Furthermore, if a person is endowed with discipline, even if yakshas and non-humans, who are inherently wicked, find an opportunity and a chance, they will be protected by the power of discipline itself. This is the eighth benefit of discipline. Furthermore, if a person is endowed with discipline, because of the basis of discipline, from other sources, such as Dharma robes, alms, bedding, cushions, medicine for healing diseases, and the acquisition of implements, they will be easily obtained during the practice of Dharma. Kings, ministers, villagers, people of the region, wealthy people, judges, and merchants will also respectfully serve and regard him as a teacher. This is the ninth benefit of discipline. Furthermore, if a person is endowed with discipline, because discipline is completely pure, all wishes will be perfectly fulfilled. If one wishes to be born in the desire realm as a great king-like tree, or a Brahmin-like tree, or a householder-like tree, or as gods of the Four Great Kings, or the Thirty-three, or the No-Conflict, or the Joyful, or the Delightful Transformation, or the gods who control others' transformations, and to be equal to them, one will be born because of the complete purity of discipline. If, emaho! Alas, I will enter into samadhi and dwell happily in this life, and be born equal to the gods who approach the form realm, even if there is such a wish, one will abide and be born.
