All that is included in the great residue of name and form, which is thrown away by karma, will also cease. As long as it has not ceased, it will also constantly abide in six abodes, and there will be no manifest joy in the feeling of the inner desireless place, and also in the feeling belonging to the outer desire. Thus, the Arhat who possesses mindfulness, as long as life lasts, dwells in it, and consciousness enters into it. For those who are learning, there is diligence, and for them, there is clarity. For the diligent, diligence is also understood in two ways: if it is taken according to each different learner, there are seven returns, rebirth from one class to another, and one return, etc. Among these, which are the learners who constantly practice and purify? Which are in accordance with the lower part, which has the opportunity to be completely liberated from suffering in this life, and which are in accordance with the upper part, the conforming factors that do not become completely afflicted, and for the sake of abandoning these, one practices the antidote. Therefore, without manifest attachment to desires, one will not be completely defiled by the conforming factors corresponding to the lower part; by making the mind without turbidity, one will not be completely defiled by the conforming factors corresponding to the upper part. Knowing all the laws of suffering, and from the origin to liberation, exactly as they are, and abiding with a mind that dwells exceedingly in the four mindfulnesses, in order to accomplish the ultimate, one will follow the order of how the path is attained, and thus practice the antidote. Only then will his diligence and all the laws of diligence be perfected. The essence of this treatise is: In short, the Blessed One taught that householders and outsiders will certainly be completely defiled, and among those who follow this Dharma, those who are not diligent will also be defiled, and those who are diligent will be purified. This can be understood as the essence here.

It should be done like this. Desires are desires, if that of that is accomplished, its name is obtained as desired, and the mind becomes extremely joyful. When a person's desire arises, that feeling of desire, if it is completely lost, it harms like a thorn piercing. Like a snake's head and feet, whoever abandons desires, in all the worlds, transcends this craving with mindfulness. Fields, things, wealth, cows and horses, jewels and earrings, women and servants, the desire for increase, whoever is attached to them, like a strong person becoming weak, that one is destroyed by all faults. Therefore, like a boat in water, suffering arises in that way. Like cutting down a palm tree, whoever has cut it down, that one turns away from sorrow, like a drop of water on a lotus. This is a verse made from desires in the section on meaning. Thus, here, some strive to obtain future desires, and now individually rely on those that have been obtained. Thus, they strive and individually rely, and obtaining and enjoyment are accomplished, and because of this, their happiness also arises, and mental happiness also arises, this is called enjoying the taste of desires. If they strive, but those desires are completely lost from obtaining and enjoyment, then that craving with the taste of desire, like a thorn entering the mind, like a person being pierced by a thorn, is extremely painful and encounters mental displeasure, this is called the fault of desires. Here, desires are like a snake, the taste of desires is like the head of a snake, the snake of desire seizes children with the poison of being completely attached and manifestly attached to enjoying the taste of desires. The noble hearer who possesses hearing, like a snake's head turned upside down, by abandoning complete attachment to enjoying the taste of desires, enjoys from non-attachment to great manifest non-attachment, those forms, etc.

From attachment to this, to the craving for desire in relation to tangible objects, whatever belongs to that attachment, one must subdue and abandon the desire and craving for longing, and transcend through complete transcendence. This is truly the way to be liberated from desires. In short, the nature of desires is twofold: material desires and afflictive desires. Among these, material desires refer to grains that are based on fields, and wealth that is based on land. For example, grains need to be sought from fields, while wealth needs to be obtained through serving the king and engaging in commerce. The method of seeking grains from fields is through oxen. The method of seeking wealth through serving the king is through horses. The method of seeking wealth through commerce is through various items adorned with wealth and jewels, as well as earrings, rings, and so on adorned with wealth. Like this, one must understand these best methods, as well as other commercial skills for conducting buying and selling transactions. After accumulating wealth and grains, one can indulge in enjoyment, and the companions for enjoyment are women. When there is no accumulation, the companions for acquiring, guarding, and increasing are servants. After accumulating a large amount of wealth and grains, in order to eliminate decline, one buries them as treasures. These are all the manifestations of material desires. What are afflictive desires? They are the clinging to the consciousness that arises after tasting the flavor of material desires, as well as the craving that arises from pervasive conceptualization. Because these afflictive desires make one feel weary and frustrated in the pursuit of material desires, causing material desires to change and deteriorate, thereby giving rise to faults, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and turmoil, which, once arisen, constantly strike the heart. Like this, this life is overwhelmed by faults, becoming helpless, just like a boat sinking in water, and in the next life, one will also suffer various kinds of suffering such as birth, aging, and sickness. This is truly the way to be liberated from desires.
