Some people think like this: Just as the first thing needs a cause to arise, the later moment also needs a cause to arise. If things and things arise in the same way, and those things also arise after that, then it is true that a cause is needed. The cause and condition first produce one thing, and after it has been produced, the first thing does not arise again later. After being produced, it exists for a period of time, such as years, months, or days, and then it does not immediately cease when I am born. Therefore, there is no production in between, so it is thought that a cause is not needed. In order to show that this is also unreasonable, it is also said, "By what cause does it cease?" etc. After the first thing is produced by a cause, after a period of time has elapsed, it finally ceases. It must be examined whether the nature of the existence of that thing disappears and it finally ceases, or whether the nature of destruction disappears and it ceases. If the nature of the existence of a thing disappears, because the nature of existence does not have the nature of destruction, then those things will not be destroyed, and they will not cease later, but will exist permanently. If that thing is the nature of destruction, then the nature of destruction does not have the nature of permanence and existence, so it will be destroyed from the beginning, and it is impossible to continue until the end. For example, space is the nature of non-existence, so it does not exist from the beginning, and it will only remain non-existent later. It will not be like being non-existent at the beginning and existing later. Furthermore, after that thing is produced, it exists for a period of time and then finally ceases. It is necessary to point out the cause of cessation by which it ceases. That is its meaning. If it is said that the cause of production is that, then the answer is that it is also not possible. If others say that the thing ceases later, it is the cause that produced it in the beginning that ceases later, that is also unreasonable. In order to show how it is unreasonable, why? Because production and cessation are contradictory, it is said, "Because," the cause that produced it in the beginning also became the cause of cessation in the end. How is it unreasonable? Because production is the existence of things.

Yes. Cessation is the absence of things, so where there is arising, there is no cessation. Where there is cessation, there is no arising. Therefore, the cause of arising itself cannot be the cause of cessation. It is said: Even if arising and cessation are contradictory, there is no contradiction even if the cause of arising causes cessation. To show the unreasonableness, it is said, "Two contradictories do not arise from the same cause." Arising and cessation are contradictory. It is not seen that two contradictory dharmas arise from one cause. The cause of arising has things and arises, but it does not lack things and cease. If the cause of arising causes cessation, then it cannot be the cause of arising. The cause of cessation lacks things and causes cessation, but it does not have things and arise. If the cause of cessation causes things to arise, then it is not cessation. Therefore, it is unreasonable for the cause of arising to cause cessation. To show an example of two contradictory dharmas not arising from one cause, it is said, "Like the sun, cold, and warmth." Among them, shadow is the side where there is no sunlight and it is not clear, and its cause is shelter such as roofing. The sun is the side where the sun's rays fall and it is clear, and its cause is the center of the sun. In this way, the cause of shadow, the shelter, can also produce sunlight. Like shadow, it is not seen to produce two effects of the cause of unclearness. Similarly, the center of the sun can also produce the nature of bright sunlight, and it is not seen to produce two effects of shadow and the nature of unclearness. In this way, cold and warmth are also mutually contradictory. Where there is cold, there is no warmth. Where there is warmth, there is no cold. Among them, cold is all teeth chattering and hair standing on end, etc., and warmth is dust falling, etc. Among them, the cause of cold is hail and snow, etc. Hail and snow, etc., can produce cold and also produce warmth, but there is none.
