One should teach the doctrine and the key instructions, abide in the correct doctrine and key instructions, and possess the actions of body, speech, and mind that are completely grasped by skillful means. In brief, it is: one should have much faith, seek and explain the Dharma, similarly practice, as well as the correct doctrine and key instructions, and the body, speech, and mind that are completely grasped by skillful means are ultimate. How to train has also been taught. Now, what should be trained will be taught. Who is it that trains? It is said that bodhisattvas train. These bodhisattvas can also be summarized into ten types: Abiding in the lineage, fully entered, impure intention, pure intention, intention not fully matured, intention fully matured, uncertain discernment, certain discernment, bound by one lifetime, and the last existence. These bodhisattvas, in general, are not distinguished, but are called by these names: Bodhisattva, great being, intelligent, great splendor, great compassion, great merit, powerful, great guide, abode of the Victorious Ones, and great Dharma, and so on. Among them, abiding in the lineage refers to merely having the seed of unsurpassed enlightenment and generating the mind of enlightenment. From relying on the lineage, generating the mind of enlightenment in order to train in the training of a bodhisattva, and abiding in the discipline of a bodhisattva, is called fully entered. This fully entered one, until not entering the first ground, the Joyful Ground, while abiding on the ground of practice with aspiration, is called impure intention. From entering the first ground until the seventh ground, it is called pure intention. This pure intention, until not entering the ultimate eighth and ninth grounds, is called intention not fully matured, because there is effort and exertion. When entering the eighth and ninth grounds, it is called intention fully matured, because there is no effort and exertion. This fully matured one, until not entering the tenth ground, which is determined as the position of a regent, is called belonging to the uncertain.

Having entered the ten bhumis, it is called belonging to that (ten bhumis). A Bodhisattva of the ten bhumis necessarily belongs to that (ten bhumis), and that also has two aspects: attaining in one lifetime and the last existence. Attaining in one lifetime means that in this life one will not attain unsurpassed enlightenment; after that life has passed, in other lifetimes one will attain unsurpassed enlightenment, for example, the noble Maitreya. The last existence means that in that very life one will attain unsurpassed enlightenment, for example, the Bodhisattva Sarvarthasiddha. These three are the tenets of this treatise; this treatise only explains three meanings in its beginning and end. What are the three? The lineage of Bodhisattvas, the generation of Bodhicitta, and the practice of Bodhisattvas to be learned. The name of this treatise is the Ornament of the Sutras. Why is it called the Ornament of the Sutras? Because this treatise becomes an ornament that beautifies the words and meanings of all the Mahayana sutras, it is called the Ornament of the Sutras. How does it become an ornament? It is shown from "Who adorns, where is adorned" to "Adorning with various ornaments" and so on. The condensed explanation is: starting from "Those who know the meaning explain the meaning," up to "Because of thoroughly distinguishing the meanings, the wise always generate supreme joy," the meaning of the three verses shows two ways: how it exists and how many there are. The explanation of how it exists is shown by who adorns, where is adorned, by what is adorned, for what is adorned, where is adorned, as whose ornament, and for what purpose it is adorned. That is, the words of grammar, the agent, the object, the action, for that reason, for the cause, for the limb, and for the sign, are applied sequentially to the seven definitive words. That is, starting from "Those who know the meaning," up to "For sentient beings with that kind of renouncing mind," it is shown. The explanation of how many there are is shown through the way of numbers. How many are the numbers? It is five. That is, the meaning of perfect attainment.
