Now, the Shravakas comprehend the Bodhi of the Shravakas, and the Pratyekabuddhas also only comprehend the Bodhi of the Pratyekabuddhas. Bodhisattvas, however, attain and comprehend the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Bodhi, therefore it should be known that they are superior. In this regard, the Bodhi lineage is the initial generation of the Bodhicitta, and it should be known as the basis and support of all aspects of Bodhi, the Bhumis, and the Paramitas. Here, when a Bodhisattva initially generates the Bodhicitta in the state of an ordinary being, it is the chief of all the true aspirations of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. From then on, all the true aspirations of the Bodhisattva are gathered and contained therein. Therefore, the initial generation of Bodhicitta is the nature of true aspiration. Furthermore, when a Bodhisattva generates the Bodhicitta, they consciously direct their mind in this way and also utter these words: 'Emaho! May I attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and may I place sentient beings of the Shravaka lineage and the Pratyekabuddha lineage in ultimate Nirvana, and may I place sentient beings of the Mahayana lineage in the wisdom of the Tathagatas.' Thus, they generate the Bodhicitta. Therefore, the generation of Bodhicitta is a state of desire. The generation of Bodhicitta also focuses on the benefit of Bodhi and sentient beings, because it generates the Bodhicitta for the sake of desiring these two, and not without focus. Therefore, the generation of Bodhicitta focuses on Bodhi and the benefit of sentient beings. Furthermore, among all the aspirations made to generate worldly roots of virtue such as Indra and Brahma, and the true aspirations made to generate transcendental roots of virtue such as Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, the initial generation of Bodhicitta is the supreme of true aspirations, it is unsurpassed. Therefore, the nature, aspect, focus, and excellence of this generation of Bodhicitta should be known in these four aspects. Furthermore, the generation of Bodhicitta should be known in two aspects, namely, arising

I am not an arising one. Among these, an arising one is one who, after initially generating the mind of enlightenment, completely follows those and does not act in opposition. A non-arising one is one who does not completely follow those but instead opposes them again. Turning back after generating the mind of enlightenment is also of two types: complete turning back and incomplete turning back. Among these, complete turning back refers to one who, once having turned back, no longer generates the mind of enlightenment. For example, if those of the Hearer lineage generate the mind of enlightenment in the Great Vehicle, if those of the Hearer lineage abandon the mind of enlightenment once, they will no longer generate the mind of enlightenment later. Incomplete turning back refers to one who, once having turned back, generates the mind of enlightenment again. The extensive and detailed classifications of the mind of enlightenment, as well as the causes and conditions for its arising, and the causes and conditions for its turning back, etc., appear in detail in the *Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra*. Here too, it should be viewed in the same way. Now, the conduct of a Bodhisattva will be explained. What is the conduct of a Bodhisattva who has thus generated the mind of enlightenment? In brief, it should be understood as threefold: what to train in, how to train, and who is training. These, when combined, are called the conduct of a Bodhisattva. Among these, what should a Bodhisattva train in? One should train in seven places. What are the seven places? They are: one's own benefit, the benefit of others, the benefit of just that, power, maturing sentient beings, oneself perfecting the Dharma of the Buddhas, and unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment; these are the seven places. The meaning of the summary is: One's own and others' benefit is just that, Power and sentient beings maturing, Oneself, the Buddhas, all Dharmas, And the seventh, the supreme enlightenment. Where a Bodhisattva should train has been explained. How to train will be explained; how should one train? In this, first of all, a Bodhisattva who wishes to train in the training of a Bodhisattva should increase devotion to the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, seek the Dharma, explain the Dharma, practice the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma, and correct
