It is also said that it is the very thing that causes ripening and liberation. Other than that, all these ways shown earlier, such as "worldly far-seeing ones," are just futile words. It should be added: Abandoning permanence and annihilation, the mind appears as two kinds of things, the apprehended and the apprehender. The activity of the mind is the various movements of the mind accompanied by conceptual thought. From "then again" and so on, it extensively shows that the fruit to be obtained is nirvana itself. As it is said: Other non-Buddhists also accept nirvana, so what is the difference between their nirvana and the nirvana of the Tathagata himself? In response, non-Buddhists, as mentioned earlier, all accept inverted tenets. Thus, the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas stop the truth of suffering, such as the contaminated aggregates, and are free from desire for objects, that is, they abandon the truth of the origin of causes, and because they see the sixteen aspects of the Dharma, such as impermanence, which are incompatible with the cause of abandoning them, many minds and mental factors that are associated with afflictions do not arise, that is, the remembrance of objects of the three times does not arise. This is like a lamp going out, it does not arise because the cause is exhausted, but not because of realizing the emptiness of the object to be examined. That is, the suffering and origin that previously existed as true entities suddenly cease and do not arise, and they see the cessation and non-arising as the reality of the wisdom that knows cessation and non-arising, so because of the inversion, it is not nirvana. Furthermore, even on the path, they also see these as ceasing, so because of the inversion, they cannot be liberated from suffering. Others, due to the power of mantras, are liberated from conceptual thought of objects, and like an arrow and wind, the supreme self goes to another realm. As it is said: The non-Buddhists believe that above all three realms, there is a place of liberation like an umbrella, forty-five hundred thousand yojanas away. Like this, they think that going there is liberation, and so on. Intelligence and what is to be known are

Due to the existence of various attachments, this state is not manifested, so the peaceful ones desire the permanent "self" to attain liberation. Or, since the objects of various characteristics mentioned earlier do not exist, it is quiescence, and it should also be understood in this way. Because of seeing permanence and impermanence, some consider "self" and others to be permanent, while other forms, etc., are seen as impermanent. Furthermore, it should also be combined with the four views of clinging to permanence mentioned in the Sutra Requested by the Noble Brahma's Net. "Desiring happiness by seeing characteristics," etc., refers to seeing the distinguishing characteristics as tumors, stinging pains, etc., and therefore being afraid of them, thereby abandoning them, and considering the permanent "self" as the quiescence of the place of supreme joy, which is secretly proclaimed by the Samkhya heretics. The so-called "for the sake of desire" means that for such a realm of desire, the thought of quiescence will change. There are also some peaceful ones, those belonging to the desire realm, and those who proclaim Brahma, etc., who believe that the entity of the "self" encompassed by the three times will not be destroyed and exists. If someone recognizes this, that is quiescence. As those belonging to the desire realm said: "In all beings, the self exists, and in the self, all beings exist. Whoever recognizes the state of having the self in this way, that is seeing universally and equally." Furthermore, "Everything is the peaceful self, arising from peace itself. All beings are peaceful, and whatever is peaceful, that is the self." And "The teaching is given to the practitioner in the same way," and so on. In addition, the Vaibhashika school of our own tradition also understands the self-characteristics and common characteristics of internal and external dharmas, and also encompasses them with the three times, and the three times are also real. The past exists in the place of the past, and the future also exists in the place of the future, so they will not be destroyed. However, the past and future are established through the destruction and non-arising of actions, and the present action is the present. If someone recognizes it in this way, that is recognizing quiescence. The so-called "all dharmas are indestructible" means that everything is the nature of the permanent "self," so it will not be destroyed. If someone recognizes and realizes this, that is quiescence.
