The entirety of Nâropa's meaning is summarized as follows: All of the Mahayana is contained within the five dharmas, nature, the eight consciousnesses, and the two selflessnesses. The five dharmas are name, sign, conception, correct wisdom, and suchness. These can be summarized as the completely imputed, the other-dependent, and the thoroughly established. Name is the completely imputed. Sign and conception are the other-dependent. Correct wisdom and suchness are the thoroughly established. Nature is the realm of dharma, which should be understood as the common ground of desire and liberation. The eight consciousnesses are the six consciousnesses that engage with the eye and so forth, as well as the afflicted mind and the storehouse consciousness. The two selflessnesses are the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of phenomena. All that exists is momentary, like the sound of a cymbal and a waterfall. Because the permanent is unborn, it is not grasped as existent, like the child of a barren woman and so forth, hence the selflessness of persons. The selflessness of phenomena is also that when coarse and subtle phenomena such as form are examined with wisdom, they become empty like houses, villages, forests, and so forth. It is said here: Body and enjoyment, place appearance, storehouse, all arising, eight kinds, nine kinds, like the Sugata, like ocean waves. When what is to be known, coarse and subtle, is examined with wisdom and is not found, and becomes empty, then there is no dualistic conception of grasper, grasped, speaker, spoken, action, agent, producer, generator, thing, non-thing, and so forth, and thus they are understood and realized as non-dual. Because there is no grasped, the grasper does not exist, as it arises from the way Maitreya explains the intention: Know the meanings of self and sentient beings, the appearance of consciousness arises, its meaning is non-existent, because that is non-existent, this is also non-existent. There is no connection with the agent and the action. When there is one moment, there is no second moment, and things and non-things are also unrelated.

Because there is no dust, it is like bestowing benefit without producing many. Great wisdom arising sequentially is unreasonable, and arising simultaneously is also unreasonable. Because the cause has not obtained its own nature, there is no bestowal of benefit and no benefit bestowed, because both have obtained the arising of self. Therefore, what should be born does not perform other dharmas such as producing. As it says in the Madhyamaka: If birth is compounded, then it should have three characteristics. Birth, abiding, and cessation are the three characteristics. But if birth is not compounded, how can the compounded have characteristics? How does birth arise? It is not self-nature, nor other-nature. Cessation is also the same, not self-nature, nor other-nature. Therefore, since dharmas such as birth do not exist separately, dependent origination does not occur. Because of attachment to the doer, there is self in samsara. The absence of attachment to the doer and the deed is the opposite, because one fully understands the selflessness of dharmas and persons. In the non-dual bodhi's non-luminous samadhi, all images of dualistic conceptualization do not appear. Even when seeing with appearance, wisdom does not see it. As it says in the Arya Prajnaparamita Sutra, when meditating on impermanence, suffering, impurity, etc., images and so on are like space. Emerging after seven days from the abode of the Naga King in the ocean is a superhuman miracle, which is how the Bhagavan makes the three realms rejoice. Making a smile means that the profound non-dual dharma of two is also explained by the Buddhas of the past. Like appearing in a dream, it appears commonly for a long time, without any external meaning of mountains or oceans, etc. The smile of the Bhagavan is like someone with cataracts mistaking one moon for two, using this to measure who enters the world's examination in the same way. The Dharma taught by the noble ones themselves with clear wisdom and, speculative views and, heretics and, Shravakas and, Pratyekabuddhas and, those holy lands is said to be the grasped and, the grasper and,
