Why is it taught that Bodhisattvas practice great love and great compassion? Answer: The great compassion of Bodhisattvas is small compared to the Tathagatas, but great compared to the two vehicles. This is the imputed great compassion. The love and great compassion of the Tathagatas are truly the greatest. "Perfectly pure perfections" refers to the six perfections and the ten perfections, etc., which should be understood as explained below. "Perfectly pure seeing and serving the Buddhas" is explained in the commentary on the Sutra of the Ten Bhumis: "Completely and without exception seeing the Buddhas, completely and without exception making offerings, completely and without exception serving, like the ten bhumis as described in the sutra." Therefore, in the same commentary, it says: "The great aspiration of Bodhisattvas is completely threefold: completely seeing all the Buddhas, completely making all offerings, and completely performing all services." Among these, completely seeing the Buddhas is also threefold: seeing the Nirmanakaya, the Sambhogakaya, and the Dharmakaya Buddhas. Offerings are also threefold: material offerings, such as clothing and food; respectful offerings, such as incense, flowers, and banners; and practice offerings, such as faith and discipline. Service is also threefold: service of diligently seeking, service of welcoming and sending off, and service of practice. Alternatively, "perfectly pure seeing and serving the Buddhas" refers to the ten types of offerings. Therefore, in the Yogacarabhumi-sastra, it says: "What are the offerings of Bodhisattvas to the Tathagatas?
